WVU has a good case, the big east is no longer a legit football conference.

Has anyone with legal knowledge read these bylaws? Are they binding?

I agree with this, by adding those 5 non-BCS conference teams how does that make them a legit conference? Does anyone know if the ACC escapieze are impacted??

If they lose their bcs a****id then it'll be an easy suit. The problem is, this will be tied up in courts for 27 months.

That's not really much of a legal analysis.

I don't see anyway a judge could force wvu to play their big east games. Who gets held in contempt when the injunction is violated? The AD? Damages yes. An injunction no.

Probably not, since I believe Syracuse and Pitt aren't moving to the ACC until 2013 or 2014.

Isn't there a deal to be made where everybody gets what they want? Big 12 and SEC agree to support keeping Big E's AQ status. In exchange, Big E releases WVU (and others) from 27-month waiting period (they've already got the replacements). WVU joins Big 12 for 2012. Mizzou joins SEC for 2012.

So everybody wins. Big East stays (somewhat) relevant. WVU and the others escape from the Titanic (Big East). Big 12 gets WVU. Mizzou escapes from the HMS Bounty (Big 12). SEC gets Mizzou.

MU fans go back to making meth. Cyclone Fanatic goes back to riveting discussions about Women's Cross Country.

    Everybody wins.

Re: Big East sues West Virginia over bylaws

The argument that Big East is no longer legit football conference while it may be true in the longer term, is likely a losing argument for WV. Because of the 27 month time frame, all of the schools that have historically been apart of the this conference for football will remain for 2012 & 2013. It is difficult to show that you would be injured by the execution of the contract, when the league will be the same for the next two years as it has been when you were happily a member.

If the other schools had already left, then this could have legs, but I don't think in this circumstance it will

Who or what will force wvu to play a big east schedule next year? I don't see it. Contracts can be broken. The penalty is damages.

Really? In today's conference musical chairs? Simply announcing you are leaving is enough to count those teams out immediately (Syracuse and Pitt, one a founding member and the other not far from it, compared to West Virginia who only joined in 1991), because it is guaranteed that the conference will not be the same going forward. While the 27 month exit delay may not have significant financial effects for a couple seasons...it most certainly will have financial impacts beyond that. Not to mention that the conference is bringing in non-BCS teams to replace those founding members.
