    E-Cat could change the world?

Cold fusion rears its head as 'E-Cat' research promises to change the world (Wired UK)

"Rossi, an Italian inventor, claims to have come up with the Holy Grail of power generation, an "Energy Catalyser" or E-Cat, which produces limitless energy. He has already carried out laboratory demonstrations in front of scientists and the Italian media, and in October he plans to unveil a one-megawatt power plant in the US. If it works, the E-Cat is the biggest thing since atomic power, bringing an inexhaustible supply of cheap energy. It looks much too good to be true and many dismiss it as an obvious scam, but Rossi has powerful support from some surprising quarters."

"What will it mean if it does work? The E-cat will provide a lightweight source of cheap energy, without any CO2 emissions. (And unlike nuclear fission, there is also no radioactive waste.) This could turn the world upside-down, and trigger a new industrial revolution which would shift away from fossil fuels and into an era of clean, plentiful energy."

Re: E-Cat could change the world?

The "demonstration" was last week. Seems to have provided more questions than answers. From my understanding, it was supposed to be a 1 Mw unit, but supplied about half that. There was no information supplied, no walk around. More of a customer delivery than a public demonstration.

I want to believe that this could be real, but this guy has poured his life savings into this thing. If it works as wonderfully as alleged, why not put this in front of Warren Buffet, get some capital, and become a trillionaire? His approach seems shady, though he does have some amount of legitimate scientific support.

No nuclear byproducts or CO2...but what about the catalyst? Once that's spent, what does that look like?

Truthfully, this is what I thought the thread would be about when I opened it. Mildly disappointed there was not at least a mention of Eco-Cat by the cold fusion "expert".

Link to the blog I read. Seems fairly impartial, given how polarizing the subject matter is.

I don't claim to know anything about this stuff, but I thought the catalyst was nickel and the byproduct was copper? I think I read that somewhere.

If he could make this thing work with a lead catalyst and have gold be the byproduct, he could have infinite wealth!

Would be amazing if true, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also, if by some miracle is is true I'd expect to see alot of attempts to discredit it and controversy surrounding it, because if a new, clean power source could be created to replace our existing power sources, a whole lot of companies and countries around the world would stand to lose alot of money and power.

I agree with this. I hate to be cynical, but I doubt ConEd, XCel Energy, MidAmerican, PG&E, etc. would just go quietly into the night without putting up a major fight to discredit this. Or at a minimum, lobby the govt to not "approve" it for use in the US while they study the safety of it for the next 50 years. This is assuming of course that it's legit.

    This development is nothing new.

Elisabeth Shue (aka Dr. Emma Russell) developed this techonolgy in the movie THE SAINT.

Apparently, someone is just NOW implementing it. I think I saw that movie in the late 1990's...

She also saved Val Kilmer's life.

I think electric companies would embrace cold fusion as a cheaper, safer way to generate electricity. Now if it is something that you can have in you basement, that is a different matter. Like anything, even if it does work, there will be limitations and delays in availability.

I thought they already invented this in the movie "The Saint."
