    Thank you Aramis

Turned down the 16m option the Cubs exercised saving the Cubs the 2m buyout. Combine that with the 10m Pena got and you can go get Fielder. I know they have bigger needs but big Lefty bat in the heart of the order is what they need to build around.

I hate to see him go but I really don't want to resign him to 3-4 yr/$12 million either. Who are they going to have at third now? I can't even think of who that would be.

It isn't going to matter if they don't find some pitching (looking at you, CJ Wilson). Garza was good last year and the rest of the rotation stunk.

I agree. Unfortunately, the SP market this year is pretty bare and even if they get Wilson, it won't be enough. They're going to need Dempster to not suck this year. I do hope they go after Fielder though.

I think you can pretty much toss this year off to the side. They still aren't going to be a playoff caliber team. However, if they can get CJ Wilson for 3-4 years and get another pitcher or two next year, they're well on their way to competing in that division.

I don't want Wilson. You know what's worse than paying a thirty something firstbaseman a whole bunch of money over a lot of years? Paying a thirty something pitcher a whole lot of money over a lot of years.

    Re: Thank you Aramis

I see the Cubs trading to get David Wright since the Mets are definitely in a rebuilding phase, and signing 2 big name starting pitchers. With the extra money get what you can afford at first base (Fielder or Pena) and have a Colvin/Campana/LaHair rotation in right field.

Wasnt' Vitters (the cubs top pick a few years ago) a third baseman? He could be the answer...

Aramis is one of the few Cubs who can actually hit for power and average, and his salary isn't that bad considering what it would take to replace him. That's great if we get Fielder, but who's going to give us that kind of production at 3rd base? Fielder can't do it all by himself. Somebody mentioned David Wright above, but his numbers haven't been that great the last couple of years, and I would imagine he'll cost at least as much as Ramirez. Bad deal, if you ask me.

    Re: Thank you Aramis

The Cardinals didn't win the World Series because of Albert, rather, the rest of the team. Albert is still good, but he is much more streaky than he was 3-4 years ago. Personally, as a Cardinals fan, I question whether my team should sign him to a monstrous deal even. Teams win titles, not one player. The Cubs signing Albert would require a lot more out of rookies and Triple A players, along with depending on how Albert feels that night.

Vitters isn't ML-ready yet. If there isn't anyone good out there to get this offseason, they could just go with Baker, DeWitt, and/or LeMahieu.

That's been the word on the street and doesn't seem to be changing.
