    Email "Compromised"

Someone is sending email from my bride's email address to people in her address book. The mail is showing up in her Sent folder. The mail typically relates to ED products. She's getting complaints from friends - business and personal. She just changed her password. She'll likely soon change her email address as well. She just got a new computer with good virus protection. Anything else she can or should do? Is there a global way of telling people her new address?

    Who is the email with?

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.

tell her to stop signing onto public wifi.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Probably nothing but a Brute force attack program running against her email account. Probably had an easy password to compute and BAM...their in. Happens to a lot of people. Just change her password and make it more complex.

    Re: Email "Compromised"

This happened to me. I have a hotmail email, which has one of the weakest security systems. Anyway, I changed my password to something much more difficult and it has stopped.

It was a real pain, because I use my personal email for business purposes quite a bit.

This happens all the time. Your account has been taken over by the bulk mail advertising zombies. You have been assimilated. Time to get a new email account and stop the embarrassment.

This. Additionally, if she has a droid phone and it is a gmail account, consider getting the app that lets you do two part verification for the account.

    Re: Email "Compromised"

This only happens to women. Most likely she either:

    1. Fell victim to a phishing scam and willingly gave someone her email password (she'll deny it but that doesn't mean it didn't happen)

    or

    2. She signed up for an online account somewhere, one of those where your email address is your username, and used her ACTUAL email password for her account password.

    Re: Email "Compromised"

In addition to changing the password, you'll want to see if they created any new filters or rules, such as forwarding incoming emails to a different account, sending incoming emails to the trash, granting account access to another user, etc. I have seen this done to hacked gmail, hotmail, and yahoo accounts - pretty clever, and pretty nasty.

    Re: Email "Compromised"

It is AOL email. Yes, the email address is the id on a number of sites and she has friends who send "you've got to see this . . . " video attachments. It's nasty when business associates ask to be removed from your list.

Why are you on AOL mail?

Give him a break. Some people don't want to let go of the 90's.
