    Blythe Utilization????

Can anyone explain this absolutly ridiculous trend of NOT getting our best playmaker the ball. Check out his season stats throughout his career. His Freshman and Sophomore years Blythe AVERAGED 20 yards/catch. This year his LONGEST gain is 18yards.

I really can't comprehend it at all. I know last year he was hurt...but not getting him the ball this season against our weakest opponents just doesn't make sense to me. I really feel bad for him as I highly doubt he will get drafted because he has not been able to demonstrate his football talents.

Don't get me wrong either, I would much rather have a win than get the ball to Blythe 8 catches/game, I just feel that there may be a very high correlation to our successes of 2004 & 2005 when we got him the ball. Using him as a decoy is just an absolute waste of a phenomenal player.

    Re: Blythe Utilization????

Of course, right after I posted this thread Meyer threw him a 26 yd TD Pass.......

I don't think my point is lost though, if anything it is reinforced. If we throw him the ball good things happen!

    Re: Blythe Utilization????

The first interception was a pass to Blythe. That was a good thing wasn't it.

Also, Blythe has received much more coverage the last 2 years than he did his first 2 years.

    Clone52,

Honestly...your argument makes no sense. By your logic NFL coaches must not know nearly as much about football as their college counterparts because recievers like Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, etc. have/had great years almost every season throughout their careers. It must be because defenses are too stupid to put more coverage on them huh? Oh wait...its most likely because their offensive coordinators knew how to create situations to get their playmakers the ball.

Also..that interception was totally Meyers fault. I watched it on Clonezone before it went awry and he was falling down when he attempted to throw that ball. He underthrew it and it was an easy pick for Toledo. Blythe had no chance.

    Re: Blythe Utilization????

How did Randy do when he was the only threat in Oakland? It's all about balance...and having more than one weapon. For every Marvin Harrison, there's a Reggie Wayne, or Joseph Addai. Same can be said for most, if not all, of the great receivers in NFL history IMO.

NFL QBs are smarter and more talented than Meyer. They have much more practice time and know when to go to that guy and when not to. For the most part, they are better decision makers. Also, they typically have more tools to work with, so if a defense concentrates on one guy, the other guy will kill them.

Also, that INT was Meyer's fault, but that just proves my point. A more experienced and talented QB would feel that pressure and not force it to the receiver in that situation. At least they would make that mistake less often than their NFL counterparts.

Also, none of those receivers have as big a gap between the next best receiver on his team as Blythe has had.

Frankly, I'm beginning to think that Blythe, like Meyer, was vastly over-rated by the previous staff. I'm no longer buying the hype.

    Re: Blythe Utilization????

He was the leading receiver today - 7 catches, 77 yards and 1 TD.

Offense (play or scheme) wasn't the problem today.
