    Causiously Optomistic of kicking game....

I saw in the post game Notes that Guyer has made his last 4 FGs attempted... Plus CPR was a little upset when Mahoney attempted the early FG, it amost seemed like he would have rather seen Guyer try the 50 yarder....

That one that guyer made that was like 38 yards looked like it probably could have gone another 15 yards.

I wouldn't mind seeing Mahoney execute another on-side kick. Could be huge, especially if we beat Kansas and need to sneak out another win to be bowl eligiable.

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! If you don't talk about it, maybe the kickers won't notice that they've performing like they should and keep doing it. Now you've ruined the whole damn thing....

I will say this about Mahoney, he seems to have mastered the art of the onside kick.

Well, they did screw up HUGE last week by not having the right kicker on the field. The result of the play is irrelevant. They should know who is kicking. I usually had one kid do that each year when I was coaching junior high football, and even then I was pretty upset. Not knowing you are supposed to be on the field in D1 football is inexcusable. Suppose that happened in a closer game and we had to burn a timeout? Thank God that was our biggest mental error of the night and it didn't come back to bite us.

It is more that we have 2 kickers and the distance was a bit far for Guyer, but he had a decent wind at his back. I think CPR would have rather seen Guyer's accuracy out there with that wind than Mahoney's distance and more-then-not shanks.... It was probably a miscommunication between coaches than anything....

I guess in my mind, that's something you figure out during your last pregame meeting just so there isn't any confusion on the sideline. You have a pretty good idea what the wind will be doing 24 hours from kickoff. There shouldn't be any confusion about who is kicking.

I went back to my old strategy of never watching a fg or pat...seemed to work so far.

Until we are consistently converting 75%-80% of our field goal attempts, I will not be optimistic about the kicking game.

Re: Causiously Optomistic of kicking game....

Guyer is doing a great job with his kicks. The range on the kicks this year is down from the last few years. Cant imagine its easy to run out and kick a fg when your last kick was week 3...let alone a 50 yarder. Also they didnt "send out the wrong kicker". One coach told them one thing while the other told them another. The fg teams stands by Rhoads before they go out, he knew who was kicking the fg and I thought it was absolutely ridiculous of him to throw a tirade on the sideline like he did. IMO, have a word with the coach who determines who does the kicking...btw, which coach is that?

Re: Causiously Optomistic of kicking game....

There's not much reason to really feel any way about the kicking game right now. Regardless of how well we kick, Iowa State only has 5 games left to play this season, and both guys will be ineligible after that. We'll have to see the next man up after that.
