Well if he did, they should have used that same formula in games 1-7 as well.

Crossed my mind a little. I also wonder how much Rhoads's year with Tuberville gave him insight into Tubs's idiosyncrasies. Now that he's absolutely destroyed Tuberville two years in a row, it makes you wonder.

Re: Did Leach give CPR the Formula?

The problem with TT is they didn't play like TT. They were constantly trying to throw the home run ball, even when it had no chance. They did a few underneath things, but nothing like I am use to seeing from them. ISU did a great job of tackling on the short passes and in the running game, which is key, but I was surprised by the number on long sideline plays and 20 yard passes over the middle.

I was assuming that Leach was in town to help ISU run the spread rather than defend it. Still can believe that someone hasn't pick him up as a OC. Must have something to do with the lawsuit against TT.

I think everyone from top to bottom, coaches to the last guy who gets to suit up for the game, thought this was going to be a cake walk game. The team seemed flat, but the game plan never seemed to settle down into a typical Tech game. I know coaches always speak of the only important game is the one this week, but after seeing our last 4 games, I don't think they had to work to hard to beat us. And honestly, we hadn't played this well all year either. They were probably as much in shock as I was. There's no way they practiced getting punched in the mouth by ISU.

Doubt this. Id give CPR the credit for preparing his team mentally and the coaches for putting together the best game plan. If anything, CPR has an edge over other Big 12 teams when playing Tubberville because he was an assistant under him for a few years.

This, plus, I'd like to add that I really think our Defensive backfield is underrated. They really do a good job of shutting other teams passing game down when they get a chance to rest. When our O isn't going 3 and out on every play, you see that a fresh ISU Defense is pretty decent. It helps that we tackled well this game too. When Tech did catch it, they were stopped there.

Leach was in town in April as the keynote speaker for the coaching clinic ISU annually has.

Didn't need Leach to tell them to run the ball, control the clock and play defense.

There was no secret sauce for the TTech game. We just played with enthusiasm and executed in all facets whereas they didn't seem to match our enthusiasm or execution level.

Why would Leach settle for being a coordinator? It keeps getting mentioned on here about being an OC somewhere, but he'll get a head coaching job somewhere.

Re: Did Leach give CPR the Formula?

Iowa State controlled the line of scrimmage and played with great ball control thus keeping the Texas Tech potent offense off the field. Tech pressed a bit when they get the ball where they went 3 and out or had a turnover.

The Iowa State defense is pretty good but has been put in terrible situations all year and has been spent by the middle of the 3rd quarter because of it.

Offensively and Defensively, it was one of the best executed football games I have ever seen Iowa State play.
