    LaRussa retiring?

Being reported by Fox Sports per the Dan Patrick show. If you're gonna go out, go out on top.

If true, thanks Tony. I didn't always like the guy, and I know he "over-managed" at times, but it's hard to argue with the results, and his players respected the man.

Wow. HOF'er for sure. Great career, going out on top. Will always be known for his unconventional managing... Including batting the pitcher 8th...

Seems like just yesterday he was managing the Iowa Oaks when he got the call to manage the White Sox...

    Re: LaRussa retiring?

As a Cubs fan with a dislike for the Cardinals, I still had total repect for the way LaRussa did his job and got results. One heck of a manager.

You have to assume that if he's done, it's the end of the Dave Duncan era as well. Given his wife's health issues and the fact that TLR is the only manager he's ever worked for, it seems certain that Dunc will also step down. If you were ever going to make a case for a pitching coach in the HOF, I think Dunc is it. When you look at the reclamantion projects and his ability to get the best out of his guys, he will likely go down as one of, if not the greatest pitching coach of all time.

Have a strong dislike for the man because of the way he carries himself and his team, but I have to respect his winning.

    Re: LaRussa retiring?

Confirmed on Twitter. Tony, the Cards' GM, and the owner are having a press conference now.

    CardsInsider St. Louis Cardinals
Tony La Russa had just announced his retirement
I wasn't always crazy about his decisions, and I felt like he was losing his touch over the last couple years and for most of this year. But the dude had some stones and he obviously knows to pull the right strings over the last 2 months.

    Thanks for everything, Tony.

Depending on who the Cards find for a replacement... this could make it easier for Pujols to sign elsewhere. Pujols was Tony's boy.

Press conference on ESPN right now.

His track record is outstanding. I respect the man for the enormous amount of winning he has done over 33 years.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

    Re: LaRussa retiring?

Not good for Pujols. Albert loved Tony like the father he never had (sort of).

The chances of the Cards resigning Albert significantly dropped.

I don't know about that...but those videos of his arrest for drunk driving were downright embarrassing!
