Men's Basketball On Track to be Eligible for NCAA Tourney

Unlike Connecticut, which faces a nearly impossible task to meet the new post season apr requirements for 2012/13 and 2013/14, ISU's last three years average over the 900 requirement for postseason eligibility. It is a four year calculation during the two upcoming years, so as long as this season is solid, we are in good shape.

Last years was our highest in the last 6 years at 936. Second highest was last McDermott season at 907. We will need to continue to improve however as after the two years listed above it changes to a two year calculation with an average requirement of 930, then jumps to 940.

In this new world a single bad APR year could easily cost a team two years of tournament eligibility.

Also the Football team is in good shape to be eligible from an APR standpoint anyway for bowls in the coming years.

How do transfers affect your APR, do you not get penalized as long as they are in good academic standing?

Transfer's in won't hurt, so also long as Hoiberg keeps the guys that come in (H.S., Juco, transfers) we are fine. A big turnover year like we had in some of the McDermot years and even in the L.E. & TF years or kids flunking out is what hurts big time.

I think BB is more difficult to keep a good APR score than football, because a couple of kids can really throw your score and so it is more variable than when you have 85 players to balance it out. Interesting KS, and Texas both had perfect 1000 in BB last year.

Yeah, considering Josh Selby never went to class after the NCAA tournament since he was training in Vegas. He worked it out with his teachers though. What a farce.

I don't know for sure but I thought they tweeked the rules a few years ago so transfers out don't hurt you as long as they are in good academic standing when they leave. So I didn't think most the transfers out hurt us. Somebody like Lucca leaving in the middle of the year probably did though.
