    ISU's Issues

Iowa State's issues are more than just the quarterback and I think we are seeing the growing pains with trying to develop a program. PR has not been blessed with a quarterback that he is searching for to develop his offense. An accurate passer who makes plays with his feet and doesn't turn the ball over. I think this is why he has recruited as many qbs in his recruiting classes. Barnett wasn't accurate yesterday, but he didn't turn it over which helped keep ISU in the game.

Also, not to come down on our wr's, but think he is looking for more wr's like Jarvis West. He is a wr who can take a 2 yard pattern and turn it into a 15 yard gain. They need wr who can get yards after the catch.

I think our secondary and lb's are solid, but with very little pass rush we are putting too much pressure on them to hold up into coverage. I hope that some of the young guys develop and we can get more of a push from the DT and more quickness off the ends.

The problems are the same now as they have always been. It is damn tough to get top level talent to come to school in Ames Iowa.

+1, and I feel like the gap in talent is getting bigger every year

Yeah, the talent level is the biggest issue. Our talent would be good enough to compete in the Big 10 IMO, at least get to bowl games. But the Big 12 is just loaded with talent.

For example, we think we have good RBs, but then you see Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael yesterday and realize that James White would NEVER see the field if he was at A&M. And James White is a good RB folks, don't get me wrong, but the RBs in the Big 12 are almost all elite type RBs. Now carry that kind of talent across the board to all positions on your team and you realize what ISU is up against every week.

I've been saying on here for weeks, we are going to struggle to get back to a bowl game in the new 10 team Big 12 IMO. Our schedule will be a nightmare each and every single year. Especially if we keep playing Iowa every year. Not that we can't beat Iowa, as we proved once again this year, but it's not a cupcake win that we can always count on. If we're only going to play 3 non-conference games every year, they had better be cupcakes. And as this year is pointing out, going 3-0 in the non-con probably isn't even good enough to make it bowling anymore.

We will probably never have as much talent on the field as almost everyone else in the Big 12, besides maybe KU. So, for us to win, we have to out-smart and out-coach other teams. We're doing neither of those right now. We play dumb, commit way too many turnovers and penalties, AND our OC isn't very good IMO and won't be able to outsmart any defense in this league with his predictable playcalling and scheme.

    Just my opinions.

    Re: ISU's Issues

CPR tries his best to make up for the talent gap with emotion to bring the most out of his players. The apparent lack of discipline is the side-effect. I think the early turnovers and penalties throughout are a result of this.

You haven't been here many years if you think that. At least we have players that compete now, where that hasn't been the case in the past. We don't have a full team yet, but we are closer. The Big XII is just loaded right now. If we were in the BIG 10 right now, we'd be talking about which bowl game we think we could get to.

I do agree that it is tough to get talent to Ames, IA. But I don't see it tougher than say Lawrence or Manhatten, Kansas, or for that matter Iowa City or Lincoln, NE. For high school kids in Florida or Texas, we're all just in some giant, corn field that gets really cold in the winter. True there is more tradition other places, but that tradition was built somehow. If it can be done in those other places, it can be done in Ames.

I will add the Boise is a beautiful place. We are fighting for 2 and 3 star players with the likes of K-State. They have had some recent tradition, they win. The same can be said of Kansas, Mizzou, etc.

I agree with this and there are many more places you can add to the list. I think if it can be done at K State it can be done here.
