Bill Snyder Has Lost His Marbles

Bill Snyder says he is thrilled to have increased depth on both sides of the ball this year. He now has 73 players on scholarship. That number includes 5 star and preseason all big 12 running back Bryce Brown who has spent the last 3 weeks on the campus of the University of Tennessee campus visiting his girlfriend.

So instead of having someone who can actually build a football program WE opted for someone who fricking destroyed football for a generation of fans....

oh btw they tell me that bill snyder's replacement is Sean Snyder who is learning at the foot of the old master himself and gett in ready to take over the reins to wildcat football..........

I don't disagree with what you posted - there is little doubt that Snyder would have been better than Criner/Walden. The question, though, is would it have mattered? The way the ISU AD divested in the football program throughout the 1980s and the early '90s I'm not sure Bear Bryant could have successfully coached in Ames. While JP is doing a great job with ISU facilities, he's still trying to catch up to where competing programs were a decade ago, largely because past ADs chose not to invest in anything over that time period. ISU fans like to hate Hayden Fry for intentionally raping the ISU football program, but the bottom line is Fry didn't say anything over that time period about ISU that wasn't true and Fry didn't rape ISU - ISU bent over and spread its legs.

But back on topic - Snyder might have won more games and possibly made a few more bowls than Criner and Walden, but I highly doubt he would have had the same run at ISU that he had at K-State - the environment in Ames at that time wasn't conducive for regular, long-term success.

There has never been regular, long term success in Ames.

He didn't say there ever had been "regular, long term success." But now, with the current administration we have (and hopefully with the new president), athletics is getting the support it needs. Should fooball success ever come, Pollard will work his butt off to keep it going. In the past that wasn't true.

At this point I will take irregular, 1 season success. Unless we starting cheating our ***** off, realistically that is about all we can hope for.

Walden wasn't that bad. He did the best he could, he had NO administrative support whatsoever.

If you are looking for people to blame for the destruction of ISU football, look to the person the ISU library is named after, and his immediate successor.

If we had hired Snyder instead of Walden, Snyder likely would have ended up resigning after 3 or 4 years and going somewhere else. At the time, the support environment for athletics at ISU was not good.

I agree on the admin support....but....take it from someone who lived through it...Walden was absolutely, positively HORRENDOUS. Period. End of story.

He started out OK. Around 91 or 92, he basically gave up. The Triple Option was Walden desperately grasping at straws, trying to find something to make up for the talent gap, which was largely due to having no administrative support.

There were some things Walden always did well. We had kick-*** special teams under Walden. Unlike present times.

BTW, I attended ISU from 90 to 94, so I know what I am talking about.

When you punt 20 times a game you are bound to get good at it.

this is very accurate. the admin. seem to have an almost dread toward football. JO kept the dept. alive in those days. It was sicking the lack of support Walden had. Despite that he almost turned it. The critical game was 1990 against MN when both star tailback Blaize Bryant and qb Pederson went down with injuries. They went 6-5 the year before and I really thought they were going to turn it in 1990.

Walden was always good for one upset, except in 1994, or maybe that tie was our upset.
