That would explain all the cops on Grand. I even saw ISU cops rushing to the scene.

Yes, 8th and Grand, blocked off the whole block. Crazy.

Enlarge the photo at the link. Many shots; through the windshield, on the hood, door, etc.

Iowa plates...number is clearly visible. Nice car too, leather interior, etc.

    Very odd for Ames!

Ames Tribune > Ames Tribune > News

Officials say a man in a stolen vehicle was shot by Ames police after attempting to run an officer down in an escape attempt.

The incident occurred at around 10 p.m. An Ames officer on routine patrol located a black 2011 Toyota Sequoia which had been reported stolen the day before.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, officials say, but it fled the scene, leading to a pursuit.

The chase resulted in damage to three police cars, and when the suspects attempted to hit an officer who was on foot with the vehicle, the officer shot at the car.

The vehicle then left the Department of Transportation building at Grand Ave. and S. 4th St. and headed north on Grand, but was stopped near 8th St. The two suspects inside were taken into custody, and the passenger in the car was taken to Des Moines for treatment for what officials say were non-life threatening injuries.

Ames police contacted the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation to review the case as a matter of policy. DCI officials say charges against the two suspects in the case are pending.

Must have been in pretty bad shape if they took him to DSM rather than right around the corner to MGMC.

*Edit: Nvm, didn't read the part where it said non-life threatening... If it was that, then why'd they use a helicopter to take him to Des Moines? Doesn't add up.

Doesn't say they used a helicopter, since it was a passenger and not a suspect taken to Des Moines, maybe that's where they were from and just wanted to be checked out down there.

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.

The ISD said they airlifted him to DM I think. Very odd to see this happen in Ames.

Not if you've been paying any attention to the increasing crime over the last few years.

It's still important to be aware of your surroundings especially while under the influence. There has been a spike in the crime rate in Ames in the last few years.

Drove past where it happened this morning at like 7:45 and that black car was still siting there.

That would be kind of creepy to drive by.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
