    Weekdays brutal for Big 12

Weekday games have been a bloodbath for the conference this year. I think we're 0-3 if I remember right.
Miami 34 A&M 17 (and not that close)
    Troy 41 OSU 23
    Kent State 24 ISU 13

OU and Tulsa play tonight so you would think they should be able to reverse the trend.

Overall it's not looking like a good year when 2 of your ranked teams already have blowout losses and another is struggling to beat Arkansas State and Central Florida.

I think it's like the 742nd commandment, or something like that, but Moses did decree that college football should be played on early Saturday afternoons. Those who break said commandment should not be surprised when wrath is heaped upon them...

I was very surprised at how poorly A&M played last night. I got home later than expected, turned the game on midway through the 3rd quarter to find Miami up 24-0 and driving.

I have a feeling Miami is going to rise to be a national power again in 2-3 years. Shannon is a hell of a coach and he is building that program the RIGHT way. Getting rid of the thugs and helping to develop his players.

WOW....I hate Miami....never thought I would be posting something lke that.

I'm gonna go with, pretty damn good. Then again, Miami is breaking in a new coach. We all know how rough that can be for the first few games.

Like us, I expect Miami to have some ups/downs this fall. Last night was definitely an up for them.

ONLY Just going by what we have seen the first three weeks - without looking at returning players, past achievement, past history, etc, here is Tier by priority order.

Tier I is Okie, Texas Tech, and Kansas.

Tier 2 (closer to Tier 3 than Tier 1) is Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas A&M.

Tier 3 is KSU, Okie State, ISU, Baylor, and Colorado.

    What does the group think?

I don't think Kansas or any North team for that matter belongs on Tier I. They are no better than a Tier 2 team right now, and by the end of the season could end up being a Tier 3 team.

Texas Tech has scored a lot of points, sure, but they've played SMU, UTEP, and Rice. Not exactly the stiffest defenses in the land, and they've given up a lot of points as well. Until they beat someone of note they're a Tier 2 team as well. So yes, right now, the only Tier 1 team is Oklahoma.

While I like Kansas this year, their schedule is absolutely cake. Not just non-conference, but they have it easier than anyone else in the Big 12 too.

Re: Weekdays brutal for Big 12

I've seen KU play several times so far and while I don't think they'll be a "tier 1" team at the end of the year I think they'll end up being significantly better than a 7-5 team. We'll definitely know more after they go to K-State in a few weeks but they have a real shot of going to College Station at 7-0.

Scheduling policy aside, I can't fault teams like Tech and KU for destroying the crappy teams in front of them when many other ranked teams are struggling against a similar caliber of teams. We'll see how good they really are soon enough.

    That they do.

I wasn't discrediting KU, I think they're a good team - they just don't play anyone this year.

I find it amusing that many of our fellow Cyclone fans are pegging that game as one we will/can win - forgetting the butt-kicking from '06 and the fact KU doesn't suck this year.

Re: Weekdays brutal for Big 12

KU doesn't belong in Tier 1, mainly because of their creampuff schedule to open the year. Yeah, they have a great scoring offense and yada yada, but just wait until they hit the Big 12. They have the ability to make some noise, but they're Tier 2 at best.

I think most of us realize that injuries had crippled the team by that point, and that most of the team had given the season up. According to the laws of who-beat-who, ISU beat Toledo in OT, who beat Kansas in OT, who should've at least been involved in a tight game versus ISU when the two played.

Todd Riesen of Kansas aced out the two qbs from last year. Like Bates beating out Bret and Austen by the first game.
