    Missouri just finished conference

that was basically covering their backsides for the financial downfall to Kansas City for their future move to the SEC.

They said they would like to anchor a future holiday bball tourney their and would like to maintain rivalries like the KU game in Arrowhead.

    They're gone.

Missouri takes the next step toward SEC - CBSSports.com

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Missouri chancellor Brady Deaton was granted sole authority "to make decisions on conference realignment" by the school's board of curators Friday afternoon.

The move seems to be the next step in Missouri removing itself from the Big 12 to go to the SEC. On Oct. 4, the board gave Deaton similar, but broader authority. This seems to narrow the process.

The board also announced the school would pursue an invitational basketball tournament in Kansas City as well as an annual football game in the city against "a traditional regional rival." The move seems to address concerns over the loss of the Kansas rivalry. Missouri and Kansas have played annually at Arrowhead Stadium since 2007.

The announcement was in the city that will be particularly impacted by Missouri's departure. The Big 12 basketball tournament has been played, with few exceptions, back to when the conference was formed in 1996. Missouri's basketball ties with the city go back to the 1970s when the old Big Eight Holiday Tournament began.

They're trying to give 2 consolation gifts to KC for leaving.

    1. Continue border war game in KC
    2. Big 12 Holiday tourney.

To which all interested parties will probably say no thanks.

I know what you mean, but OU did the same thing with their Chancellor.

Something smells off. Why would they narrow Deaton's powers? Sounds like saber-rattling to me. "Now I really, REALLY mean it."

Yes, but OU never started making plans for rivalry games to continue at the Texas State Fair or for an "invitational" BB tourney to be played in OKC.

Yes they are obviously getting push back, so they had to throw KC a bone or more like a dog biscuit.

The hang up for Missouri is that they are afraid of the buyout and legal issues. I'm guessing the Big XII isn't going to give them any breaks. They are scrambling like rats on a sinking ship trying to negotiate their divorce settlement.

They could care less if KC suffers financially. The only reason they'd even push to continue events in KC for them is that they'll continue to gain financially themselves.

You'd have to think that KC authorities have to be pretty upset on this one.

Did they give Deaton atimetable. TAMmy is still at the bustop clicking her heels waiting for good buddy MO. If I was MO, I would want some real SEC competition and demand they satry in the West Division. To be the best, you must beat the best.

Let's see, $28M for aTm and $40M for MO since he left twice. Leave the money at the bustop, SEC people.

    They did and they didn't.

They wouldn't be going through all the machinations to appease K.C. if they were staying. One of the reporters even baited Alden into answering a question about "wanting to keep Kansas as a traditional rival" with the implied assumption being 'once you are in the SEC'.

At the same time, they said on the record that no decision has been made to move and we are still a Big12 member, and so on. It was a "firmly entrenched" rhetorical moment certainly.

They are clearly slow-playing the whole process to give the appearance of a deliberate, judicious (tamper-proof) process of gathering all available information with the intent of avoiding legal problems.

It should be clear now that they are leaving, but I think we all wish they would just do it, so we call move forward.

If they go any Big 12 school better tell them to F' OFF!!, concerning any region traditional game in football at Arrowhead or otherwise. If you want to go fine, but go and stay gone.
