    Anyone use Hotwire.com?

We are going to KC for a Chiefs game, and we saw on hotwire that some downtown 4* hotels were $80 a night(about half price). Just wondering how reliable their ratings were. I dont want to get stuck in some craphole downtown.
I used Hotwire once in KC, for the first Farmageddon, but thats only cause several other posters here had already got $49 a night rooms across from the Stadium.
If anyone has a suggestion... TIA.

    Re: Anyone use Hotwire.com?

I think the ratings are reliable and actually I would use it more for higher end hotels because that way you know you won't be getting screwed over in the end.

There is a website (if you google you can probably find it) where people post what hotels they get in what location with how many stars so you may be able to take a guess too.

Haven't used priceline, but I will say that priceline a 4 star != a 4 star... I ended up in one of the worst Holiday Inn's on the planet.

I use hotwire and priceline a lot. Use Priceline and Hotwire Forum and they will have hotels pinned by area of the city for all major cities. Basically for an area it will tell you the star# hotels and what amenities it has so you can narrow it down to 1-2 hotels. 4 star in kc I have got the hyatt westin area and the alladin holiday inn for 3 star in p&l area.

That is the site, or maybe one of them, that I may have been thinking of.

    Re: Anyone use Hotwire.com?

I've found Hotwire to be quite reliable for hotels all over the country. However, I tend to book higher-end hotels, not cheapos, and I do look at hotel websites as sometimes they're cheaper direct than through Hotwire.

I have had good luck with hotwire. Use this site to figure out which hotel you are actually getting:

Priceline Forum, Hotwire Hotel Bidding Help, Hotel Lists

I think on priceline now you can also set up a tracker deal that will let you pick your star level, location and price you are interested in and when someone else gets something at that level in the place you want they will email you

    Re: Anyone use Hotwire.com?

I have used hotwire for at least 6 years and have never been disappointed. Booked a room in the NW suburbs of Chicago 2 years ago. They sent an email a month after I booked before I went and told me the hotel had been downgraded to 3 stars. I kept the room because I had stayed here before. They gave me $25 in credits towards the next room I booked. 2 weeks before my trip they email and tell me the hotel is undergoing construction. The options were to cancel and book somewhere else or cancel or keep the room. I cancelled, they gave me another $25 credit, and I then booked again. Got the same hotel and for $50 less. They are great!

I use Hotwire all the time to rent cars. Found them to frequently offer the best deals on the Internet. In fact, I just booked a compact car from Dollar for eleven days in Florida for $190, including all taxes and fees. And, I didn't have to pay in advance, so I can cancel without penalty.

    Re: Anyone use Hotwire.com?

Hotwire.com & Hotels.com are both owned by Expedia. There is a good chance that you may be able to locate the actual Hotel Name by comparing ratings/prices on Hotels.com. The prices will be marginally higher on Hotels.com but they may access the same underlying supply - the markups will be different.

    Re: Anyone use Hotwire.com?

One of the biggest things to do on Hotwire is to make sure there are strong numbers for positive reviews on the hotel you are going after. If you do that I never go wrong. In KC, I love to pick one in the power/light district that is like a 3 star. I don't remember the hotel, but it is an older nice hotel that was literally a 3 block drunken stumble from the power/light district. It was well worth the $65!

Used this site with Priceline all the time when I do weekend trips. If you follow the bidding rules they give you for Priceline, you can pretty much get the hotel you want. Got a great deal in KC at 1/2 off the regular rate.
