College Athletic Conferences are like College Fraternities
Interesting summary of a San Antonio article on the wheeling and dealings of the creation of the Big 12 from 2005. Colorado had wanted to go west for awhile, but was not let in because of academics. Texas wanted the academic status of the PAC-10 not the "everyone can qualify and play" mentality of the SEC. Stanford sees Texas as an athletic and academic rival and vetos any attempt by Texas to join its club. A&M just wants to be in the SEC.
Seems like a college fraternity all over.
I could not find the original article. That would be a nice find.
