From what i know the only TV slot was 6 or 7 pm, and Mizzou officials didn't want a late kickoff for homecoming.

Really, turns out to be an unexpected favor from Mizzu. Now if they had only blocked the streaming of the game via Clone Zone!

Worst thing the Internet did that day was to function properly.

Re: Why the Missouri game wasn't on TV

I actually think it was more sinister...They did this to rile up their fanbase talking about how all SEC games would be on TV. Apparently Pinkel did not know that Mizzou turned down being on TV until 810 WHB in KC told him. He was not pleased.

The Mizzou folks in 'charge' are morons.

The report that came out last week has been debunked. All Mizzou reasons for leaving have been debunked. Alabama is already pulling a 'Texas' with how divisions would be aligned. Florida will not give up their part of the Sunshine network. There is no grant of rights in the SEC. Arkansas has averaged a winning season in the SEC once every 4 years. The SEC would have to rework their TV contracts or all schools will receive less money. I assume A&M and Mizzou would have a similar setup as TCU does coming into the league so they will be out revenue for a few years. In other words the reports of Mizzou making $14 million more per year are wrong.

As far as being competitive in football, Mizzou is in their golden era right now. How would they have fared the last 4 years in the SEC? Trade ISU, KU and CU for Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. Ouch....

...AND perhaps not getting as many key recruits from the state of Texas. If MU goes to the SEC, can they keep getting those quality recruits that have helped their team rise to the upper half of the Big 12?

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

Mizzou wont beat out LSU, Florida, and Bama for recruits down south, but in a conference that likes to run a lot, Mizzou can offer exposure in an aerial based offense. They will beat out some of the other programs for quality players.

I see it as a trade off if they focus their efforts down south instead of Texas. Seems Texas recruits are just as accomplished as those in southern states.

Is Mizzou beating Texas, OU, and ATM for recruits in the state of Texas right now? Nope. But they can hold their own with programs like TTU and Oklahoma state. Same difference.

Last year ISU's homecoming game against Kansas was not slated for TV, and ISU denied FCS the right to broadcast the game. Same exact thing Mizzou did.

Missouri Makes Curious Decision Not To Televise Iowa State Football Game - SB Nation Kansas City

    Sorry if already posted
This story is essentially the same one that I reported last Wednesday after listening to radio 810 in KC on a different thread on this web site. The twist is that the coach wanted to be on tv and was not consulted by athletic administrators. The coach is quite frustrated with lack of air time for Big XII games but in this case it was his own university that turned the opportunity down, which would have resulted in either an 11 am or 6 pm start. Homecoming was the athletic department's excuse, although those of us who are in Ames would have appreciated seeing the game on tv (or at least the thought of it given the results). No money was involved, i.e., FCS games do not carry appearance fees with the telecast.

Here is one other thought that popped in my driving around KC. Evidently the majority of the people who live in Missouri leave east of Columbia and the minority, live west. The easterners want the SEC, the westerners the Big XII. In short, the move to the SEC has the support of more people. But I would suggest this: take out a map and look for natural rivals for Mizzou in the SEC, and compare those with the natural, geographic rivals in the Big XII---adios to the KC market for Mizzou). So, the move may result in some vague advantage for MU, but MU loses its natural rivals, has to travel longer distances for all contests, i.e., the volleyball team has to travel to Athens, GA for a weekday match, and now Mizzou can write off the state of Texas as a recruiting territory. Do they really think they can out recruit the local teams in AL, GA, LA and so on?

Mizzou is an institution that has won virtually no Big XII championships since the league was formed and now it wants to "upgrade" its schedules. The logic of all this, other than unbelievable pettiness is difficult to understand. So, to Chancellor Deaton and the Board of Curators, we hope you enjoy your periodic trips to Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Baton Rouge and so on for sound beatings in all sports.

Why did ISU not want the game broadcast? I just find it curious because it would seem that schools would want their games to be on TV...

I believe it was because you don't make any money on FCS channels, so instead of playing a game during one of their allotted time slots, we could choose what time we played.
