Re: BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Naz Long to visit story

Wow. So IF he commits, and he would start spring of 2012... He's sacrificing a 1/2 year of eligibility, correct? Or would this spring be treated as a redshirt semester?

Sounds like a pretty likely deal. Especially after he meets our best recruiter, Mr. Niang...

Re: BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Naz Long to visit story

We are gona have the best named team in the big 12

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Re: BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Naz Long to visit story

Technically you can join the team at semester but still be next years recruit. See Bill walker. He was a 2007 recruit but started playing in very late (start of second semester) 2006.

I still don't get it. Does this mean we do have a current 2012 half-schollie to give? I thought with Niang, Okoro and Dorsey-Walker we were full in that class.

Other teams best recruiters aren't doing so well on that either.

I don't see the benefit at coming at semester if he isn't going to play right away. We need a point guard more this year than next year.

We are full. The staff is just being proactive and assuming that someone will transfer. Or maybe they will push someone that is underachieving out the door to free another. Or maybe this is a temp position for Long and if he does well in his first semester then they will give him a scholarship for next year. If not they will tell him to go elsewhere. Never know.

You realize that of these eight coaches, seven (possibly all eight) will FAIL in their recruitment of Noel.

    Calipari
    Boeheim
    Ole Roy
    Coach K
    Cooley
    Self
    Pitino
    Calhoun

It's strange isn't it. Success rates for top recruits are really poor, even amongst the best coaches.

Re: BASKETBALL RECRUITING: Naz Long to visit story

We aren't full for 2011 which allows him a scholarship for 2nd semester but we are full for 2012 right now(pending signed LOIs). Someone must leave before next fall for him to be on scholarship next year.

No, that sort of evidence doesn't count. Recruiting is much simpler than that. Nobody fails but us.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Well, without putting too much thought into it, obvious benefits at coming in and semester and redshirting would be practicing with the team, familiarity with players and program, and getting a head start in the classroom.
