    Trick or Treating Question...

How many pieces of candy do you all give out per child? I usually give out 2 (I always get the M&Ms, Snickers, 3 Muskateers, Twix assortment) to each child, unless it is someone I know, like a friend of my daughter. What about everyone else?

I just picked up some Butterfingers, Snickers, KitKat packs and was also thinking 2 per Munchkin.

Also got some Smarties for backup in case I run out of the others.

Of course I can always eat the extras after Halloween if there's any left.

A handful, but we don't typically get many trick or treaters.

I generally offer trades first. If they look at me like I'm nuts, I make sure no parents are around, steal all their candy, and slam the door in their face. I assume they leave my house laughing because they have to admit, it was a pretty funny joke.

For those with young kids, do you and your spouse go out or does one stay home and distribute? I'd like for both of us to go out, but from my experience if you leave a bowl of candy out it'll last about 2 minutes. Then you get egged.

I usually let them have a couple. If they are clearly too old to be trick or treating and/or obviously put no effort into the costume, they aren't getting anything more than one out of me. We get between 80 and 120 trick or treaters each Halloween.

I like having the kids come to my door trick or treating, but I get a little tired of parents from who knows where hauling their kids in vans to our neighborhood. Seriously, can't you trick or treat your neighbors' houses? Almost invariably these are also the rudest kids of the bunch - never saying "thank you" or even "trick or treat", just holding their bag or hand out; cutting through our flower garden instead of using the walk and driveway; complaining about the candy selection; running over and/or cutting in front of the little kids.

Yes, I'm getting old and crotchety enough to say, "Hey, you kids, get out of my yard!"

I usually make little packs with a small M&M, fun sizeThree Musketeer, Reeses Peanut butter cup, a fun size Hershey bar and a couple of Smarties.
    I go waaaaay overboard.

Every time I have used that term up here in MN people look at me like I am crazy. When I explain it they all say of course trick or treating is on Halloween, why would it be any other time?

By the way, has anyone ever given out beers to the parents? I've thought about doing it for a couple of years now but I'm not sure how it will be viewed. I know some in my neighborhood would appreciate it. If you did, how was it received?

I give out apples and toothbrushes, but last year my doorbell must have been broke, because I never heard it ring.

And let me guess, you included a little something for Dad's razor in each of the kiddies' apples, too.
