I know you have to play the hand that was

dealt to you. But I am going to dwell on this all year long. If we had Iowa's schedule, we would win at least 8 games and possibly 10 games this year.

Ohio State wins at Illinois with 1 pass completion. And Purdue and Minnesota and Indiana are probably worse than Kansas.

I'm gonna say no. We are terrible right now. Iowa is mid range.

Nope we'd lose to Pitt, Penn St, Northwestern, Mich, Mich St, and Nebraska. We'd lose at least 6 games.

Re: I know you have to play the hand that was

Just think about how excited some posters on this board were last year when the Big 12 conference was "saved" and it was determined that we would go to a round-robin 9 conference game schedule. I remember seeing a lot of "to be the best, you have to beat the best" types of posts and "its gonna be great playing everyone in the conference every year" comments as well.

We're looking at 3 conference wins at best on any given year with the current conference setup and going into having TCU join/A$M leave.

    Best post all day.

Going to this 9 game conference schedule where we play everyone in the Big 12 is going to kill ISU football... period. I don't think we've EVER gone to a bowl game in a year where we played OU, Texas, and A&M. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. It was always the years when we didn't play those 3 teams.

We will be lucky to win 3 conference games a year most seasons. So we'll be 3-6 in the conference at best. Pretty tough to get to a bowl game in that case.

The only teams in the conference now that we can or have consistently played decently against are K-State, Mizzou and KU. That's it. Baylor will probably fall back toward us some next year with RG3 being gone, but we haven't beaten K-State since 2007, and haven't beaten Mizzou since freaking 2006....and it took a miraculously bad game by Chase Daniel and friends to get that done!

We're in for some very, VERY long seasons in the coming years.

Calling Purdue worse than Kansas is wrong, but none the less, there is no way ISU would meat Michigan or Michigan State, they would more than likely lose to Northwestern, Penn State, Pitt and Nebraska. I don't see any better than 5 or 6 wins with Iowa schedule. If comparing ISU's schedule to Iowa schedule make you feel better about today's ***-whooping than that's cool, but we flat out were horrible today on both sides of the ball, and if we don't get some things fixed, we will be lucky to win 5 games this year.

lol. If we had Iowa's schedule, we wouldn't be the team we are. They are honestly so far removed from each other you can't look at it that way. Plain and simple, we are not good right now.

Who I feel really bad for are the players like Money, Knott, Klein and Johnson, who are really good players playing on an over all bad team.

Wow... it's even worse than I thought. You are so right it isn't even funny. There are 3 teams we have a shot at beating in this conference, and we haven't beaten one of them since 2007 and another since 2006.... and those are our best chances at wins. That's SCARY to even think about.

Really our only hope is to get this conference back to 12 teams so we don't have to play some of those south teams every single year. If we don't, I think it will be us and KU battling it out for last place every year. It's sad, but it's the truth.

Re: I know you have to play the hand that was

Just to build on that point:

Opponent ~ Last Win ~ Last Ten Meetings (ISU record, i.e. 5-5 for .500)

(note that this doesn't count the current season, so some of this is worse)
    http://football.stassen.com/records/opponent.html

    Baylor ~ 2009 ~ 5-4 (only 9 meetings total)
    Kansas ~ 2010 ~ 3-7
    Kansas State ~ 2007 - 3-7
    Missouri ~ 2006 ~ 3-7
    Oklahoma ~ 1990 ~ 0-10
    Oklahoma State ~ 2005 ~ 4-5-1 (there was a... tie? in 1994)
TCU ~ never ~ 0-3 (last meeting in the Houston Bowl of 2005)
    Texas ~ 2010 ~ 1-8 (only 9 meetings total)
    Texas Tech ~ 2010 ~ 2-7 (only 9 meetings total)

That's 21-58-1 in our last 3, 9, or 10 meetings with these teams.

I believe in our guys as much as everybody else, but 2001-2011 has not been nice to us. We're going to have to seriously step the program up, and fast, and/or hope to prey on Louisville or Cincinnati or this ride is going to be rough. Loyal son forever true, but we've got a battle to fight through...

yes, 3-6 is a far cry from those 3-5 records ISU has been piling up in recent years.

Sorry, just a little b****y after the past few games.

I understand that having to play a round-robin doesn't allow an opportunity to get a break on the schedule in one year or another.

But we've just gone through a loss to a team that used to be on the "easy South rotation," clobbered by a former divisional team that ISU beats infrequently (Missouri) and a "hard-rotation" team we managed to beat during a down year, but on the road, in '10.

Three mostly non-competitive losses with divisions, this team might be staring at a 1-7 Big 12 record, instead of 1-8. Little solace for me.

Ohhhh, quit being a downer... and dealing with facts like that. How dare you.

We're flippin' 3-7 against KU in our last 10 meetings folks. 3-7!!! And that's the easiest team on our schedule.

Everything has to go just right for us to win 6 games. And I mean everything.

We wouldn't win 8 games against ANY schedule. We haven't played well all season long, and were fortunate to win the 3 games we did. This is not a good team. Not even a mediocre team.
