    Manliest Restaurant?

I was intrigued by the DMR article on Jethro's. What first caught my eye was they beat out a resturant in Paxton, Nebraska which I assume was Ole’s Big Game Steakhouse and Lounge which is decorated with the stuffed heads of the founder's world wide safaris. I saw something about the Emmenmecker sandwich. Do any locals recommend this place during a visit in Des Moines? We might drive over to Drake for one of the basketball games and get a salad.

Ha! I go to Big Ole's everytime I drive to Denver! That place has great breakfast.... As for Jethro's definitely a must hit when talking Des Moines restaurants.

There are other good locations for BBQ but I've never been disappointed with Jethro's.

    Re: Manliest Restaurant?

I know it is no where near Des Moines, but the "Big Texan" in Amarillo, TX is the place to be! They have the 72 ounce challenge where you have to eat a 72 ounce ribeye, side salad, baked potato, 6 large breaded shrimp and bread in less than 1 hour. If you do, you get the entire meal for free.

If you are not into that, all their waitresses dress in short skirts, cowboy boots and cowboy hats and they serve great beer and buffalo burgers that are awesome!

So, I recommend anybody driving through the area to stop there for a meal.

    Re: Manliest Restaurant?

Ole's rules. So does Battles. That said, I've never been to Jethros. But it's hard to imagine a restaurant being manlier than one with a stuffed polar bear.

I believe it opens in December, they already have the sign up on the building. Off University and 156th in West Des Moines.

It's going to be a cajun based Jethro's. Pretty pumped about it.

Will they still have the Emmenecker challenge? I want to try it everytime I hit up Prairie Meadows but always seem short on money when I walk out of that place for some reason.
