    Reduction in FB, MBB, and WBB scholarships under consideration by NCAA

    NCAA exploring scholarship cut for several sports - CBSSports.com

    The proposal reduces the number of scholarships as follows:
    FBS FB: from 85 to 80
    FCS FB: from 63 to 60
    MBB: from 13 to 12
    WBB: from 15 to 13

    It sounds like these may be in tandem with the proposal to allow "full cost of attendance" scholarships.

    Guessing the biggest effect will be on WBB with how unlevel things are there relatively.

    I guess the question that needs to be asked is, is having less available scholarship spots the best thing for giving the greatest number of students opportunities? Right now there are about 125 schools in FBS or transitioning to FBS. 5 fewer scholarship openings means you're looking at about 600 fewer scholarship opportunities just in fbs football, and then another few hundred lost in mens and womens basketball scholarships.

    That could lead to the end of the BCS. What is there, about 64 BCS teams? That means there would be 320 BCS level players at non BCS schools.

    Right. Women's sports almost always have more scholarships than the equivalent men's sport to make it easier for schools to comply with Title IX.

    15 scholarships makes it way too easy for top WBB schools to stockpile talent. 13 would make a huge difference.
