Is it time to try some other kickers?

Missing 2 XPs.....missing a 29 yd chip shot vs Texas.....not feeling very comfortable in close games with this. Anyone else agree?

Texas Tech held tryouts mid-season a few years ago. Nothing would be hurt if ISU explored that route.

why can't kirby do it? I don't know but you would think he kicked in high school at least. surely he can come out and hit some short fg's and extra points.

Why don't we just try the other PKs on the roster?

Wow, we have 6 PKs on the roster. There's no doubt some of these other guys need to get a look in practice and I'm sure CPR is looking at all his options.

Also surprising is that Kirby is the only punter on the roster, I know he's only a sophomore, but you'd think we'd at least have a backup listed on the roster.

    I agree.

However, if we can find somebody who can consistently hit FG's, then all the power to us. But kickers are just so hit and miss. Yes, there are kickers who rarely miss, but ya never know if Mahoney or Guyer could go on a hot streak. I mean Mahoney has hit a FG from like 57 yards hasn't he? I know they missed XP's but im trying my best not to give up on them.

wasn't Kirby a Wr or something in high school? I remember reading something that he didn't even punt until the ISU kicking camp.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Correct. Kirby did not punt until his senior season of high school, and ISU actually offered him a scholarship (at the camp you mentioned) before he had actually ever punted in a high school game. He never did field goal kicking work in high school.

Is this actually a question that needs to be discussed?

This makes me think "a day late and a dollar short" as far as field goal kicking threads go.

Our back-up punter is Brandon Jensen. He averaged about 40 yds a punt his senior year at Ankeny.
