    Coach Rhoads after 30 games...................

.......................is dead even at 15-15 or .500. Actually after 28 games he was 15-13. Compared to ISU and Iowa coaches since 1979, minus Gene Chizik, since he did not grace us with his presence long enough to coach 30, Rhoads is in first place and best at ISU since Clay Stapelton who was 18-12 after 30 games 1958-1960. I am not sure what to conclude from this or where he will be in the future if we can retain him but to this point I am fairly happy. I also like his complete understanding of coaching and the game, in other word he "gets it" and knows what to do. ISU needs a way to hang on to him especially if the team comes up with a winning/bowl season this year.

First 30 games since 1979, I think all of the coaches had their share of rated opponents to deal with

Iowa (hawk fans correct me if I am wrong)
Fry: 14-16 , he went on to win over 60% of games in 20 years at Iowa
Ferentz: 8-22, he is sitting at about 60% winning percentage

    ISU
Duncan: (started same year as Fry) 14-15-1, or just under 50%, he was doing fairly well and rated good part of 1981 season
    Criner: 9-19-2
Walden: 11-19 (had to deal with some NCAA imposed penalties from previous years)
McCarney: 6-24, but ended up better than previous three coaches

ISU now puts emphasis back in football where they didn't most of the 1980s into the 1990s.

There you have it, a bit of worthless information from someone who has nothing better to do than watch baseball, drink beer, and find stats.

Re: Coach Rhoads after 30 games...................

That is just amazing. Would it be fair to say that McCarney and Fry didn't inherit quite as much talent as Rhoads did? Even so that is a very impressive stat for CPR. Rhoads is just awesome and I AM SO PROUD THAT WE HAVE HIM AS HEAD COACH!!!

Re: Coach Rhoads after 30 games...................

If we become bowl eligible this year, Rhoads will have at least doubled our win total from the previous three years. That's pretty damn impressive.

Re: Coach Rhoads after 30 games...................

    Rhoads so far.....

    -6-12 in conference play
-3-2 in games vs BCS opponents outside the conference(includes bowl win)
-5-1 vs non BCS programs. Only Loss came against Utah last year.
    -3-3 so far vs Texas--ATM--TTU--Baylor.

Wins @Texas, @Nebraska, win over a bowl bound Texas Tech, win over the eventual MAC champion(NIU), win over rival Iowa. Twice has beaten highly ranked FCS foe UNI.

    Random notes:
In 2009, ISU held 3 Big 12 opponents to 10 points or less, and ranked 9th nationally in turnovers forced by seasons end.
Involved in 4 Big 12 games where ISU lost by 7 or less. 3 of which were on the road/neutral locations.

No question he's getting it done, but it just sucks that it takes so long. ISU has a fanbase that's more than willing and ready to do it's part in taking the football team to the next level.

Nope, I'm just wrong. My bad. Why did I think we were 3-3?

    Good stat, OP!

They were awful, but from everything I've ever heard, Fry left him with an empty cupboard. Pretty much had to rebuild their program from the ground up. Just looked at Ferentz's record through the years, starting in 1999 --

    1-10
    3-9
7-5 (win over Texas Tech in Alamo Bowl)
11-2 (loss to USC in Orange Bowl)
10-3 (win over Florida in Outback Bowl)
10-2 (win over LSU in Capital One Bowl)
7-5 (loss to Florida in Outback Bowl)
6-7 (loss to Texas in Alamo Bowl)
    6-6
9-4 (win over South Carolina in Outback Bowl)
11-2 (win over Georgia Tech in Orange Bowl)
8-5 (win over Missouri in Insight Bowl)

My point? As crappy as things started out for Ferentz, he really got Iowa rolling in year 3, and has only had one sub-.500 season since 2001. It'll be interesting to see what happens for us next year, because if you'll notice, year 4 is when Ferentz led Iowa to an 11-2 record, Big Ten title, etc. I don't expect us to win the Big 12, but next year CPR should have all the pieces in place to show us what we can expect in the years to come.

Re: Coach Rhoads after 30 games...................

In Fry's last three years at Iowa everyone knew he was close to retirement and their recruiting took a big hit. Ferentz to his credit took over a team with little talent and put bad teams on the field the first couple of years. Iowa really took off in year three. If ISU follows that recipe everyone will be very happy.

I know I was drinking some last night but fairly sure ISU has only lost twice this year and Rhoads has coached 30 games. Who was the team's 3rd loss this season to?
