The Big 12 can't lose that much money going from 10 to 12

can they if a conference championship game is reportedly worth 20 million. That essentially makes up for one of the teams share of tv money.

I also think the league could have required 4 new teams to get their share of tv money phased in until the new tier 1 deal is up in 2016. These Big East schools and TCU are used to getting like 3 million a year. The Big 10 did some phasing in with Nebraska.

That way everyone could have received their normal cut, we get the stability of being back to 12 and a conference championship game again.

No! We don't want to get back into this unequal sharing. Just because they weren't a part of the orginal Big12, they will be part of the Big12 and the stability of the conference is the stake of the conference.

The phasing in part of the post is an ok idea, but we should all be equal. I made the point in another thread... lets say that we would all get 20 mil a year with 10 schools, then we'd make 16.6 mil with 12 schools. What did texas make the lady couple years, 12 or 14 mil? So its stoil more than what we all made. We just need our tier 1 done fast!

You're assuming that they don't increase the payout for the number of teams. I don't think your assumption holds true.

For example, the ACC signed their latest TV deal in spring 2010. If you assume they're adding more teams, but not increasing the pot, then they're taking a pay cut to expand. They'd never to that. Same with the SEC.

    Check out this...
Swofford: ACC has opened TV deal renegotiation - College Football - Rivals.com

When you add teams, conferences seem to expect they're going to rip up their previous contracts if not get at least the same increase in payout per team.

I think the OP point was that when you think about adding teams, you have to recognize that adding team #12 is essentially like a 2 for 1 deal because of the increased payout for the Conf. championship game. Most people don't realize that...that said, the B12's situation with ABC will be extremely confusing because the previous deal already had a conf. championship game worked into it. In the long run though, the OP point that going from 10 to 12 won't really make much difference money wise.

Re: The Big 12 can't lose that much money going from 10 to 12

its not about unequal revenue sharing! You explain it this way, the current schools have made their budgets on X $$$$(I think Chuck Carlton of Dallas Morning News said each school should get $20 million next year, unless part of that is exit money) and have made their budgets accordingly.

You tell the new teams the conference will have equal revenue sharing but in order for the current schools to have the money they budgeted on their tv money may be phased in. They still will likely get 4-5X what they were getting and its only for the initial 4 years, and you only reduce it by the amount you need to get to your previously projected amount with 10 teams.

The Big 10 has done that with Nebraska. These teams will sign up for that in a heartbeat with the amount of increase they are getting and the way the Big East is not valid anymore.

Matter of fact if the conference does not feel they can make a play for ACC schools now or in the future, under this deal I wouldn't mind going to 14 and letting Cinn. & South Florida in also to go to 14 just to appear stable.
