Bill Self's comments on 810 just now

    - No increase in SEC revenue vs. B12 from what he's been told
    - If MU leaves, appearance of short term instability but B12 will be fine
    - Thinks SEC revenue numbers mentioned by media are not accurate
    - MU could become irrelevant in football in SEC
    - Traditional rivalries should be overriding factor in conference alignment
    - Very difficult for MU to be consistently competitive in football in SEC
    - B12 football needs four non con games
    - Prefers nine team league
    - Wants to stay at nine teams as long as teams are solid
    - Better schedule for MBB with nine teams
    - ACC was getting 6-7 teams in NCAA with 9 teams. Now only getting 3-4 after expansion.
    - B12 MBB has been watered down with the move to 12 teams. No surprise he says this given their domination.
    - MU and KU rivalry very important and should stay intact
    - Football is the cash cow
    - OU and Texas generate up to $2 million more per game than KU
    - Presidents making these realignment decisions which is not a good thing
    - Rather be in B12 than B10 or any other conference
    - Wants fans to be able to drive to games
    - Thinks MU should commit if commitment from other teams for 10-15 years... which is what he's hearing from other eight teams
    - Mountain West should not be an option for any B12 team
    - Wants to stay at nine, but stability might require to add teams
    - Was in panic mode couple of weeks ago, not in panic mode now
    - He calls the shots on his team's schedule. He's had that authority at every HC job. Loves the MU rivalry. Stands by his comments that if MU leaves, the game may not make sense anymore. Frank Martin feels the same way.

This guy was great on the radio. He's studied this in great detail and sounds like he's "in the know". He was fired up.

And he knows that. He thinks purely from a scheduling and strength of teams from top to bottom, nine is the best setup. Four non con games in football. Home and away games in basketball. Also said what everyone knows...more money with nine teams.

"Appearance of short term instability"? That statement insults the intelligence of any sports fan with brain stem activity.

Re: Bill Self's comments on 810 just now

This morning he was on 610. He was also making a great case that "Middle America deserves its own conference. Why should these schools have to go West, East, or Southeast."

    Really like Bill Self.

I've never disliked Self. Granted, I was comparing him to Roy.

I was listening to him online on 610, he is a pretty interesting interview. He isn't shy about giving opinions. He definitely didn't just reiterate a bunch of coach speak.

Re: Bill Self's comments on 810 just now

I've always liked Self. Still don't like KU, disliked and still dislike 'ole Roy. Self seems like a man's man, class act. I swear ole Roy tans and has had facelifts or Botox. He's also humble and he really knows how humble he is even though he's achieved so much... Blah...

    Ok, I'm done. Yuck.

Re: Bill Self's comments on 810 just now

As people know, I hate KU basketball and a lot of KU fans. I do really like Bill Self a lot though. Have heard from friends that have ran into him in the KC area that he is really laid back and cool in person too. Way better than Ol' Roy.

I agree with what he said.

Gotta agree with you, but it's kinda hard to seperate your spite for a team and your respect for a coach. I did get some practice with Dallas Cowboys years ago when I couldn't stand the team but had great respect for Tom.

BS argument - one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. I mean, if the ACC going from 9 to 12 teams means a 50% reduction in NCAA Tourney invites, I would guess a 16-team Big East has no business getting 10 invites to the dance, am I right?

I'd say the bigger contributor is outside of UNC and Duke ACC basketball isn't the monster it once was, and that has nothing to do with adding Miami, VT, and BC (who was actually decent upon entering the ACC). Maryland is still a player but they're not the national power they were a decade ago. Georgia Tech, UNC, and Wake Forest have essentially dropped off the planet when it comes to basketball, and Clemson and Florida St continue to be inconsistent. I don't think you can blame expansion for your core teams outside of UNC and Duke becoming irrelevant. I'd say it's more like those teams just aren't getting it done.

Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
