    ESPN.com football chat

They answered one of my questions!!
Alex (Chicago): Is Iowa State's defense really that good or is Iowa's offense really that bad.

Bruce Feldman: (4:13 PM ET ) A combination of both.. then again, that's almost always the answers to these kinds of questions (Is Michigan back or is ND really that awful?)

I am also trying to get him to answer another one of my question but this time I will be Bob from Des Moines. They never answer two questions from the same person.

I'm not sold that our defense is that good after this game. Our starting front D-Line is still way undersized after Tuba. We have a nice set of linebackers and some capable D-backs though but someone with a huge O-Line such as Texas Tech could run the ball down our throats all day potentially.

But Texas tech doesn't run the ball they don't even have a fullback or a TE on their team.

Well have you seen their line yet? They might try and when they do pass good luck trying to get to the QB. Their starting line boasts an AVERAGE of 6-6 336 lbs! After Tuba our next biggest guy on the D-Line is 256 I think.

TEXAS TECH OFFENSIVE LINE Texas Tech features four new starting offensive linemen this season and the unit's average height is 6-6 and the average weight is 336 pounds. Here's look at Texas Tech's starting offensive linemen:

Pos. Name Cl. Ht. Wt. Hometown Notable
RT Jake Johnson Jr. 6-7 353 Blessing, Texas JUCO transfer RG Brandon Carter So. 6-7 374 Longview Born in Lakewood, N.J.
C Shawn Byrnes So. 6-4 303 Phoenix, Ariz. Born in Norfolk, Va.
LG Louis Vasquez Jr. 6-6 335 Corsicana A possible high-round NFL draft pick
LT Rylan Reed Jr. 6-7 314 Plano Graduated high school in Crossett, Ark.

Need I remind anyone of the Fisher twins? They were huge and couldn't block anyone. Size doesn't always matter.

Hey, where have I heard that before.......

The QB throws the ball pretty quickly, they don't even need to block just stand in the way for a second, the size is good for their type of play.

Step 1: Cut a hole in the box.

    Re: ESPN.com football chat

Technique or speed should beat size in most all cases. If you have technique and speed it won't matter who is across from you. I think that we can see fundamentals/technique getting much better on this team. Just look at Jon Banks this year vs. two years ago. Look at the "next man in", like Chris Brown and the 3rd and 1 stick he made. Look at Allen Bell and Chris Singleton in coverage this weekend vs. week one and two. Well, that probably isn't fair considering the QB talent...

Somebody else posted that Meyer actually made an audible at least twice this weekend. When in 3 years has that happened. Some of these things are showing you what a group of higher paid asst coaches can do for you. Look at what Steve Loney did for us, MN and now Drake.

It's going to get better folks, but it's going to take some time. But with some luck and hard work, we really have a chance at salvaging a season here.
