    Wells Fargo Debit Card Scam

    Heads up for WF customers...

Last night I got a call on my cell phone...automated message claiming to be Wells Fargo saying my debit card was being locked because of suspicious activity. Press 1 to unlock.

Obivously I found that slightly more than suspicious itself so I just hung up and called the number on the back of my debit card.

Guy interrupted me about halfway through my explination and told me exactly what I thought, that it was bogus, my accounts were fine and it is a phishing scheme.

Just told me to monitor my accounts for the next couple days, but said everything is likely fine, just a phone scam.

Then right as I was getting into work my coworker got the exact same call and I told them to hang up and ignore, and double check their account sometime relatively soon.

Anyone else get this last few days?

Yep, I have gotten about 10 of them in the past couple of months. Both my wife and I got one lastnight.

Mine came at 0300 - good thing I had sense enough to hang up. Never know what I'll do coming out of sleep...

I got a call from a restricted number about 11:45 pm last night. I wonder if that was it.

Yep, I know at least 2 other people besides myself with WF Debit cards that got the exact same scam. Surprised it hasn't gotten more attention.

Re: Wells Fargo Debit Card Scam

Sadly, Wells Fargo looks like it may try scamming us. I hear they want to start charging to use your debit card? Like a monthly fee?

Anyway, I get so many calls from Wells Fargo, regarding security, even when I make regular purchases. If somebody else also get that many calls, I can see them falling for this.

Re: Wells Fargo Debit Card Scam

Got it a few hours ago. Pushed it to the side and figured it was fake for a few reasons:
    1) I don't bank there
    2) It was a automated call and had only one option, lol

Re: Wells Fargo Debit Card Scam

Sounds like WFC accounts have been hacked. The scammers know the members of the bank. Has WFC admitted to a slip up?

I see posters above who got the call and don't bank there. Sounds more like they just call randomly in WF's service area phishing for suckers.

I heard a similar news story on the radio today. Must be a large scale scam attempt.
