Didn't realize that it had been that long since our secondary had an interception. That needs to change!

    Re: Blum: Turnover Tumult

Good read and I agree that ISU has not had many things bounce their way this year, but part of the problem is that teams that are behind need to take more chances. So far this year ISU has been the team that has been behind and trying to make things happen. Teams like Iowa value the ball more than anything, and they will throw the ball out of bounds before the throw a risky pass, if they are ahead. Steele is also a problem in that he forces the action at times when it is just no play available.

Turnovers are the result of poor play on the offense, good plays by the defense, and sometimes just dumb luck, like Niles Paul in the game 2 years ago.

    Re: Blum: Turnover Tumult

Another way to look at things to show how poorly the turnover battle has gone for ISU...

On offense, ISU has turned the ball over in 23.2% of their possessions (worst in the B12 with the next closes being A&M with 15.4%.

On Defense, ISU has only forced turnovers on 8.6% of opponents possessions (8th in the B12).

When you create a % of possessions turnover margin ISU ends up at -14.59%. Only 3 other teams are negative....A&M at -9.6%, KU at -8.7%, and Baylor at -2.7%.

Texas Tech leads the way on the positive side of the margin with 16.5%.

The other thing to consider is how often we have gotten points from turnovers or how often teams are scoring from our turnovers. The big difference between texas and uconn was that texas was able to take advantage of the turnovers while uconn didn't seem to do as well.

It wasn't TOO different...Off the top of my head:

    Tejas scored 13 points on 3 TO's while UConn scored 10 off 3 TO's.

Yeah I tried to find a stat but I couldn't find one quickly. I think that texas number is right, but I think that uconn could have capitalized a lot more than what they did.

If you consider LJ's personal foul a turnover, which I do, then Texas scored even more than 13 on TO's.
Maybe not "officially", but certainly for all intents and purposes.

pretty sure UConn only got 3 points off turnovers, they were up 10-0 going into the second quarter, but their TD was the opening drive of the game if I remember correctly.

Just checked and you're correct. 3 pts off of 3 TO's for UConn. Other two drives off of turnovers were a TO and a missed FG.

going off memory here so this is likely off some but I think our defense has only given up 20 points off turnovers but the offense has coughed it up 12 times on the season. That's pretty incredible (and the main reason we're 3-1 right now).

First 3 games: 10 TO, 13 points off
Last game: 3 TO, 13 points off

ISU needs to put a sheath on that prolate spheroid and practice safe football.
