I undestand he is good player and all but I dont believe he is one of the top 50 players in the nation. Maybe thats just me though?

Good for Doug. Love to see two Ames kids on that list.

I was thinking the same thing but then I realize if he were a Cyclone then the big McDermott would still be here and I think we have the better end of that deal with CFH.

Re: McDerrmott on Wooden Award watch list

Top 50 might be a stretch (college hoops is down though so not a huge stretch) but he's definitely a good player. He's a little undersized but it seems like a lot of teams go with undersized front courts these days compared to the past so he fits in just fine.

I'm sure UNI fans are disappointed he's not a Panther.

Anyone that can overcome the Creighton Coaching staff deserves to be on that list.

I'm sure UNI fans are disappointed he's not a Panther.

As a dual ISU/UNI fan I can report to you that the answer to this is an emphatic "yes".

With the way it went down and with how good Dougie Fresh was in his first year you can make the argument that Greg McDermott is more despised in Cedar Falls than he is in Ames.

He took one player away from UNI. He delivered four years of constant disappointment in Ames...until the moment he announced he was leaving for Crayton.

I thought we were never going to bring up that last name ever again around these parts? He's gone, thank goodness. It's great and all his son can play above his horrible coaching, but really, who cares? Hoiberg will right this ship this year, hell, with the squad he had last year....he already fixed it. (They played to their maximum potential and then some last year, and we had a real lackluster squad because of he-who-shall not be named. Now Hoiberg has talent for this year, this program is immediatly better with CFH.)

its funny to think that gmac almost redshirted a player who went on to have the best frosh season in the history of the missouri valley.

clint mann, wes eikmeier, and dom buckley are b12 players but doug needs to redshirt? classic.

Not true. Coach knew his time was up so he sent his son elsewhere. I can only imagine how Doug would have been treated.
