Why Gene has a non denominational chaplain

Longhorns' Henry charged with pair of felonies

    Sep. 18, 2007
    CBSSports.com wire reports
AUSTIN -- Texas freshman running back James Henry has been charged with two felony counts of obstruction and tampering with evidence, making him the sixth Longhorns player arrested since June.
Henry, who was arrested Monday, is accused of beating up one of the victims of a July home invasion that allegedly involved two other players, Andre Jones and Robert Joseph.
Henry was booked into Travis County Jail where his bail was set at $30,000. Under team policy, a felony charge means an automatic suspension. Athletic department spokesman John Bianco said coach Mack Brown was expected to issue a statement.
Henry has played in two games on special teams for the No. 7 Longhorns (3-0).
Austin police learned of Henry's involvement by listening to taped recordings of Joseph's phone calls from jail, said Det. Anthony Bigongiari.
During the investigation of the robbery, one of the victims told police that some of Joseph's friends had assaulted them. In one of the taped phone calls, Henry said he "went over there and whupped" one of the victims, throwing them on the ground and punching and kicking them in the head several times, Bigongiari said.
Henry, who did not participate in the robbery, was charged with tampering because police believe he disposed of a backpack containing items stolen in the home invasion, Bigongiari said.
Police also charged a third person, Eddie Ramirez, who is not a football player, with threatening the victims.
Henry's arrest is the latest trouble for a program reeling under a string of arrests. On Monday, Brown reinstated linebacker Sergio Kindle and defensive end Henry Melton, who had been suspended for the first three games because of drunken driving arrests over the summer.
Last week, senior safety Tyrell Gatewood was suspended indefinitely after his arrest on drug charges. Freshman defensive back Ben Wells, who was riding with Gatewood when he was pulled over, was given a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and released.
Jones remains suspended from the team. Joseph had already left the team before his July arrest because of an earlier incident.

Because he'll be recruiting players with questionable moral character? What exactly is the connection here?

    Re: Another Longhorn arrested

Since Gene left the fortunes of Texas has gone downhill. This is total of six players now getting into trouble.

Mac Brown needs good assistants to keep up the good product.

One thing for sure is the use of a chaplain does manage to cure some player excesses or tendancy for froth when it comes to moral matters.

The line of demarcation is maintained and you therefore have fewer team problems.

Looks like the Oklahoma Shuffle has occurred in Austin this year.

Yeah, not sure where the non-denominational reference comes in? It's still ok to call him a chaplain, right? In related news, resident Nebraska crazy person Ernie Chambers is suing God. I grew up watching Omaha news, so I pretty much expect this kind of stuff from him.

    Re: Another Longhorn arrested

How can one sue God? I just can't comprehend that one.

On Texas...I think we have a couple folks here somewhat close to that program. I've heard rumors some down there are attributing some of the problems to the loss of Chizik - a disciplinarian. Any further rumblings out of Austin?

Ernie Chambers is proving you can sue anyone including God. Hope that someone represents God in court. Ernie likes national noteriety. Ernie Chambers is black and BMLN (Big Man in Legislature in Nebraska). Ernie is a barber who represents NE Omaha. He is a make or break vote for last few years.
