    Proper pronunciation of plural RBI

I've always wondered this. Doesn't RBI stand for runs batted in? If so, wouldn't it be incorrect to say rbis, since it's already pluralized? I'm not a baseball fan, so I could be all wrong, I was just thinking about that when I heard it on Mike and Mike this morning, and it's been one thing that's always driven me nuts.

Re: Proper pronunciation of plural RBI

RBI would the abbreviation for both the singular "run batted in" and plural "runs batted in".

It would be correct to say, "he led the league with 154 RBI" not "RBIs".

Lots of shortcuts and imperfections in the Americanization of the English language. You really shouldn't let such trivial hings as this drive you nuts. For example, you can keep an eye on a situation, or you can keep a close watch on the same situation, but how do you keep a "close eye" on the matter? How does a "close eye" differ from being nearsighted? Yet media heads are always telling us about so and so keeping a "close eye". It's driving me nots!

Don't use RBI, RBIs, or RsBI. It's a worthless stat. Also, you should be listening to Dan Patrick instead of Mike & Mike if at all possible.

It would be correct, but you'd sound like a DB.

AP Style, the guru when it comes to this stuff, says more than one RBI should be referred to as RBIs. pr_092811a.html

Scroll down a ways or just do a search for RBIs.

According to Harold "I will sexually harrass you multiple times" Reynolds, it pronounced "steaks."
