    Iowa State "30 for 30"

It would seem that this has probably been discussed before, but I missed it if it was. If there were to be a 30 for 30 style documentary on something Cyclones, what would it be?

    Some quick ideas...

The rise and fall of Larry Eustachy
The plane crash with the cross country team
    The Dan Gable saga
    Sam Mack
The story of Ricky Byrdsong (more for after his time at ISU)

There's got to be a bunch of others that I'm overlooking. To me, it seems there has to be some element of tragedy or life hurdles that are overcome, at least to some degree.

Re: Iowa State "30 for 30"

I would have to think Jack Trice would be a good story. The only D1 stadium named after an African-American is located in Ames, IA? ESPN had a great article a few years ago, but I think a piece on Jack Trice would be great - especially if it were to air during Black History Month.

I would say Gable would be the front-runner. His collegiate career with the dissappointment of his final match. The Olympics. His sister's tragedy. The move to rival Iowa. His legacy there. Many angles.

Possibly Fred Hoiberg after ISU wins the NCAA Tourney this year. His career in Ames (high school, college). His professional career. His heart issues. Coming back home. Taking a chance on all the transfers. Straightening their lives out. Winning the NCAA tournament. A very compelling documentary for sure.

Cael Sanderson would be good as well. His upbringing (Mormon, wrestling family, high-school success for he and his brothers). His unparalleled college career. Olympic Gold. NCAA coaching champion. That's pretty compelling too.

ISU only I-A school to honor African-American in stadium name - ESPN

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Re: Iowa State "30 for 30"

I think all the racial undertones and the fact that we've named our football stadium after him, Jack Trice would make an incredibly dramatic story that many would be glued to their television sets watching. It's a shame that so few people know his story.
