Toledo at 0-3 not just beatable

They should be beaten. Mac won against Iowa and the team struggled to maintain that form. I don't doubt that ISU won't come out breathing fire like it did last week - there is going to be a little understandable hangover and they are on the road so that should be taken into consideration.

We didn't bring Chizik in to beat Iowa, because like I said earlier, Mac did that. We brought Chizik in to build the program to another level and win the other winnable games on the schedule. The first two weeks were missed opportunities, last week was a nice surprise, but we can't miss another opportunity on the road against a team that is giving up 50 points per game. I think it's important to be 2-2 going into Big 12 play to give this team a lift. It can be done and it should be done. Get it done Clones!

This is an extremely dangerous game for our team. Our team are still relative "babes in the woods", and a team like Toledo can still embarrass them, if they get "up" for the game. It is crucial that we punch them in the collective mouths early, and keep punching to win this.

Re: Toledo at 0-3 not just beatable

Meyer is the 4th year starter and he has played in some hostile enviorments over the years, which should help him. THey need to go into Toledo and score a TD on the first drive. Don't let this be like the Army game a couple years ago....score early and score often.

How about some more 5 WR sets, nothing like Bates up against a LB.

We need a road win in the worst way. It really depends mostly on Bret IMO.

I get the feeling that the 5 wide sets will be dropped in a few times a game. Too many of these sets will put more pressure on the o-line than I think they want.

I think you miss the purpose of a 5-wide set. Assuming man-coverage, that leaves only 6 available men to rush the QB, but more than likely the LBs are going to stay home to assist in defending upfield, especially if they're unfamiliar with the offense. Same kind of thing goes for the zone, although I see possibly keeping at least 6 back, leaving only 5 for a rush. Send two receivers deep, one mid-range, and keep two close as safety valves. If the defense blitzes, throw to the close receiver in the direction of the blitz. If you get a mismatch like we saw on Saturday (LB on a speedster), call a hot read and send him downfield. Defense crowding the line because the short game has been effective? Throw over the top of it to your deep threats. Defense hanging back because they've been burnt one too many times? Throw it underneath. Defense spread a little too thin? Gash them in the middle of the field. It's a very effective offense to run, as long as the line can contain a 4-6 man rush for a 3-5 count and as long as Meyer has his **** together. I just don't think Toledo runs into a 5 receiver spread offense too often, and if that's the case, and we run it perfectly, this game could get ugly quickly. Here's hoping that happens.

I heard this morning that we're field goal favorites.
