Hypothetical: Would you want ISU to go to the SEC if offered?

I know this is totally hypothetical, but there are several people on this board dogging Mizzou for their possible exit to the SEC and what it could do to their football program. If the shoe was on the other foot and ISU had an offer to the SEC (won't happen but we can imagine), would you want ISU to take it? I go back and forth, with geography and stability being the back and forth. If we had the position Mizzou had in terms of geography I could maybe see it, but the $$ difference would struggle to cover the added travel costs.

If the Big 12 is around? No.

If it's between the SEC and the MAC or MWC...then yes.

Change it to Big 10, which might actually happen in a million years (unlike SEC), and the answer is an emphatic **** yes.

No, I dont think that the increase in revenue is worth having an irrelevant football program again like we have had in the past.

The bolded part is all you need to know. The Big 12 is still around no matter what shape you may think it's in. So if the SEC wants to offer ISU "hypothetically" then absolutely not.

This. And for fans as well. Conferences need to have at least some geographic relevance. And I think fan bases should have something in common. Granted, the lifestyle in Iowa isn't quite the same as in Texas, but it's not as much of a stretch as it would be compared to, say, Alabama.

Depends on the options. If the Big 12 stayed, no. If the Big 10 took us, no. If it came down to SEC or MWV or Big East remnants, yes.

No, you'd be hard pressed to prove to me, even if our football team were mildly successful, that we could afford it. We're already on a shoestring budget, add travel like that for every sport and we'd be broke in no time.

I don't think we have the resources to cheat at that level. So no.

Re: Hypothetical: Would you want ISU to go to the SEC if offered?

If we could be assured the Big XII has the same stability and "fairness" as the BIG or the SEC, I would still prefer the Big XII......"All things being equal"

The only reason I would want to switch conferences would be for long-term stability or increased revenue "fairness"

I'm a Big XII fan through and through. Even with the recent defections, I still think it's the best conference in the country!

Depends on what the options are. If a rebuilt BIGXII that included OU and Texas, then I would choose that over the SEC.

It's a clear call, if the other options are MAC, MWC. Yes I would go SEC.

It's a tougher call say, versus a BigXII/BigEast leftovers hybrid.

Probably still need to go SEC to protect your seat at the Big table despite how much a meat grinder it may be. Would have to hope for a decent regional split, but no doubt that would be a tougher life than even the old Big8.

To say much more would require a whole host of assumptions. Who else is invited where? Would the BigXII/BigEast hybrid try to form a network? What are the "Big"conferences likely to do with the BCS system?
