    Committee confusion: who's doing what?

This is one part honest question, one part rant so bear with me.

There have been so many committees and chairmen and spokesmen that it's starting to run together. Deaton spoke for some Big 12 group last week. Geoffroy is apparently heading up some Big 12 stability committee. And Pollard spoke yesterday for a group of ADs.

Can someone summarize exactly what committees and governing bodies exist - those that have always existed and those created especially to get the conference back on track - what their roles are, and who chairs them?

And the biggest question of all...how in the hell is Mizzou participating in all of these committees, and in some cases leading them, with one foot out the door to the SEC? Something isn't right when Jamie Pollard is talking yesterday about how all nine members are on board yet Mizzou-to-SEC sounds like all but a done deal.

Just know this ........................ TX is not doing all the decision making and talking. This is a very good thing.

Re: Committee confusion: who's doing what?

Board of Directors - Chair: Deaton (MU) Vice Chair: GG (ISU) Role/Members in Conference Bylaws.

Stability Committee - Chair: GG (ISU). Other members are presidents of Texas, OU, and KU - This committee hears the voices of all to address concerns and come up with compromises.

AD Committee - Chair: Pollard (ISU). All other AD's on the committee. Probably similar to the stability committee.

Missouri is only heading up the BOD as stated in Conference Bylaws. Deaton did select the Stability Committe, likely with input from all conference members. As you can see, they are not on that committee. The AD's all meet as a group. ISU has leadership rolls for both of those committees.

Thanks but I'm looking for something a bit more specific.

And I'll believe Texas doesn't get what it wants when I see it happen. Revenue sharing is great and a big step forward, although frankly it should be expected since mature, stable conferences do that already. But as long as the LHN exists and ESPN/UT insist on pushing the envelope in terms of its content, it's going to drive a huge wedge right through the Big 12.

Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech are on the party planning committee.

Thanks, that helps. Seems like Deaton ought to step aside if there is any uncertainty whatsoever about Mizzou's commitment to holding the remainder of the Big 12 in tact.

Do you remember when Mizzou to the B1G was all but a done deal last year? Or when the 6 south schools were a done deal to the Pac? Or how about this year, when the 4 south schools to the Pac were a done deal and the Big 12 was dead?

Here's another one, do you remember when CU to the Pac by itself was a done deal, or Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC? Yeah, funny, I don't recall seeing much speculation on that at all until it was over.

If there is anything I have learned over the last couple years of this BS, it is that whatever baseless speculation the media is tossing around, it is not even close to whatever is actually going down. If they are saying Mizzou to the SEC is a done deal, then I couldn't feel any more secure that Mizzou will be staying in the Big 12.

Re: Committee confusion: who's doing what?

Big 12 athletic directors meet, are committed to future stability of conference - ESPN

I'm just glad to see that ISU and Pollard have stepped up following the aftermath of the last few weeks to take charge, at least for the immediate direction of the Big 12.

After reading the article, didn't see a lot of specifics we didn't already know but the tone is that Pollard is really the point man at least as far as AD's goes. Texas and Mizzou differed everything to Jamie, which is nice to see after all the jawing that's come from those institutions lately.

And from the stability standpoint, 3 of the 4 schools on the stability commitee are former Big 8 institutions (including Iowa State). Going forward I think this puts us in a lot better position then we were two weeks ago, seems like we're driving the bus for right now.

I don't know that you can call it baseless speculation. They supposedly have an invitation and lots of reporters, including those who cover Mizzou closest, think there's a very legitimate chance they could jump.
