I know we went to Boone at least once while you were there, but I don't know that going to boone counts quite as much as going to a Big XII school.

If Boone falls short of the mark, there's always that trip to Ankeny. (2005?)

We have no room for opponent bands. We have more need to sell seats and we do have a good sound system now. Keep them home.

The band used to go to ankeny every few years, dont know if they still do that. That made for a long day if it was the same day as a football game.

Usually i believe the bands seats come out of their allotment, so they typically pay for the tickets. Same situation when ISU sends a band somewhere (also why you dont see our band go many places, its expensive)

Re: Is Texas bringing their band?

My brother was in the band in the late 90's. At that time, they took one road trip a year with the whole band. I remember him going to OSU one of those times. I believe they used to allow bands in free, but the Big 12 has a rule that the band must pay for each member's ticket. That as well as the travel logistics made it very expensive to take the band anywhere. I believe when we went to some of the bowl games, the Athletic Department pitched in (or paid for the whole thing) to take the band along.

And, TAMU band sucks. I used to hear it from all my marching band friends. The ISU band could do that too if all they did was the same routine week after week. As far as marching bands go, their routines are extremely basic and simple. Plus, they do them all the time so they can do their simple routine perfectly.

Re: Is Texas bringing their band?

I wouldnt say everything.Everyone was extremely welcoming at their tailgates when we went down there for the last game and there was a lot of their campus that made me feel at home (sort of reminded me of an ISU with 2x the size and many x the money). Definitely a bit on the cultish side but mostly good people. Theyve got a fun gameday environment, and it is a little sad we'll likely never play down there again.

Re: Is Texas bringing their band?

Back in my days, prehistoric, the band had 110 members and traveled in two busses with an equipment truck. Loaded up about 5am on game day. One trip a year, usually to KU or MU. Always stopped next to a cornfield for "rest stops". Boys on one side of the road and girls on the other. We only had 5 or 6 girls in the band in those days. Usually got back to Ames around 9 or 10. Made a long day.

Re: Is Texas bringing their band?

From 1984-1988 the band traveled to one away-conference game each year. 84-Kansas, 85-Colorado (worst fans in the Big-8), 86-Oklahoma (we were treated VERY well at OK). We also always traveled to Iowa City and played half-time of Chiefs vs. Seahawks but can't remember if it was 85 or 86. We traveled in 6 greyhounds and an equipment truck. Always played at local high school Friday night game (Lawrence, Boulder, Norman) and one night in hotel. Friday night stayed with high-school family host and Saturday night in motel which tended to get a little wild. Obviously, no bowl games. You had to be in marching band to be eligible to play pep band for MBB which was a big ticket then. At that time student tickets were limited were allocated through some kind of lottery system.

    Good times.

Re: Is Texas bringing their band?

At last year's ISU-UT game in Austin, the Texas band played "THe Bells of Iowa State" during their pre-game....as a former band member, their band earned my respect for that.

Re: Is Texas bringing their band?

The only school that is not bringing a band of some sort is Texas A&M. Kansas is bringing a full marching band, while I'm not sure if UT and OSU are bringing a full band or just a pep band.
