No way for Syracuse to vacate win

    This is just downright stupid....

Mid-American commissioner Jon Steinbrecher says no way to vacate Syracuse Orange win - ESPN

The extra point was clearly not good, a blown call from the refs and the replay official in the booth that EVERYONE including the announcers on TV could see. I don't see how the NCAA can't rule over an obvious, game-changing blown call.

I don't see how they could. There's no way you could assume the rest of the game would play out exactly like it did.

The problem is, game decision are made every second based off what the score is at that time, etc. You cant just overturn the game, because if the extra point was not called good, the rest of the game could have been entirely different.

That being said, the reply officials in this one should be canned.

NCAA rules say there's no route to reverse the outcome once the game is declared over.
Seems pretty definitive to me, although I don't anticipate those refs working another game for awhile.

Evidently refs in both college and NFL need to spend more time in the off-season going over the rules and procedures. After the Vikings-Lions game yesterday the refs met at midfield after the Lions kicked the winning field goal in overtime to discuss something - according to KFAN (Minneapolis) hosts this morning the refs were discussing the overtime rules, which only changed for playoffs, not the regular season. The refs mic was on and apparently Jim Schwartz was heard on the Metrodome P.A. yelling "LEARN THE ******* RULES!"

Exactly. Every call is a potential game changer. They can't start vacating wins every time there's a bad call.

    Correct.

If NCAA rules allowed, they could replay the game from the time of the missed extra point. This has been done a few times in the NBA...

Heat, Hawks to replay final minute of Dec. 19 game later this year - NBA - ESPN

They shouldn't have sucked in overtime.

    Exactly!

I love when you have games like this (where the refs obviously screwed a team at some point in the game), and that team looks back on the refs blunder, while completely ignoring the fact that they had multiple opportunities to overcome it, and completely failed.

I didn't see the game, I was under the assumption that that PAT was what tied the game and sent it to overtime. How much time was left after the PAT?

no, the PAT made the game 30-27 with about 2 minutes left.

It was with 2 mins left in the 4th, so I guess the outcome of the game wouldnt of changed really at all. The thing is, where do you draw that line...you really cant. The TD and extra point, at that time, put Syracuse up by 3, and Toledo got a FG off to put it into OT.
