Rhoads' 9/26 weekly press conference summary

    - Assistant coach Bill Bleil's brother Fred passed away last night after battle with cancer
    - Fred was defensive coordinator at Drake under Chuck Shelton
    - Rhoads started his coaching career under Fred Bleil and Shelton in 1989 as grad assistant at Utah State
    - Rested, rehabbed, and recruited during bye week. Exactly what they wanted.
    - Good practice yesterday
    - Used bye week to learn from mistakes
    - Jantz had good practices during bye week. Focusing on things to improve.
    - As healthy as can be expected
    - Tuftee, KO, Rump rested last week. All were in full pads yesterday
    - Dika out another four or five weeks with knee injury
    - Surprising people outside of football program
    - Improved in all phases of program. Talent, development, schemes, coaching, etc.
    - Big 12 will have 6-7 teams ranked in top 25 every year. Fully aware of challenges.
    - Conference realignment has not been a distraction. Paying attention enough to sound educated when asked about it.
    - 20 Texas players on roster. None of them were offered by Texas.
    - Week off was important to give physical and mental rest after training camp and three tough games.
    - Pleased but far from where he wants program to be
    - Need to get full 60 minute effort from everyone
    - Texas' talent as good as anyone in country. Playing very well right now.
    - Texas playing with different energy this year vs. last year. Defense very active.
    - Texas puts tremendous pressure on QB. Closing speed is impressive.
    - Lots of movement on offense. Causes D to make poor decisions and get out of position.
    - New offensive scheme with coaching changes
    - Lenz was one of first players he and Bleil met with after he was hired. Met him and family at basketball game to keep his commitment. Thinks he could play on both sides of the ball.
    - Very happy with special teams. Best production since he's been coach.
    - Team thinks next game is most important game. Doesn't matter who it is.
    - Team excited for night game on national TV. JTS will be crazy.
    - Need to start games better. Execute better.
    - Thinks will be ranked if beat Texas. Team would loved to be ranked. Need to beat tremendous Texas team.

Love hearing that. Especially after a 3-0 start.

    - Team thinks next game is most important game. Doesn't matter who it is.

Umm, I'm pretty sure the iowa game is these guy's Superbowl. That is, unless no one told them it was?

This concerns me. Everybody on this board keeps talking that UT is just a bunch of Freshmen. 1. They found their QB. 2. We have to give Jantz time, otherwise we're gonna see a bunch of picks and sacks. 3. Their D is impressive.

Coach speak. Not saying that it isn't true, but if I was Texas, I'd be more worried about the 20 Texas kids on ISU's roster that weren't offered by Texas. Bit of a chip on their collective shoulders one would think.

I don't recall the exact quote or who said it (Benton, I think), but at least one of our players was on record after last year's win in Austin that being from Texas certainly helped in their motivation that day.

Has a coach ever said that they were satisfied with where a program was? Ever?

Is this earlier changes or new changes?

I think he's referring to their new offensive coordinator Harsin. He was Boise State's offensive coordinator before joining Brown's staff. Rhoads said the new scheme seems to be working well.

Applewhite is still there btw and "co-OC", but Harsin is calling the plays.
