Please breakdown this Texas team for me

I think ISU win's, but I don't know what to make of this Texas team. Watched them play a bad BYU team and should have lost that game, but they were rotating three QBs in and out of the game. I didn't get to watch the UCLA game where Case McCoy got the start. His stats look really good, but what to make of UCLA? Struggled against San Jose State, but won on the road at Corvallis. Hard to make comparisons of these teams week over week anymore. I mean look at this, Ohio State lost to Miami, who lost to KSU, and lost to Maryland who lost to Temple . Anyways what's the breakdown on this Texas team? McCoy to Shipley part 2, good? Thanks.

Re: Please breakdown this Texas team for me

McCoy is good, as you stated, and he's got the same kind of wheels as his brother. That being said, their running game is just starting to take shape with Malcom Brown in for his second go-round with the 'Horns. He's going to be good. Really good. Also, Jaxon Shipley is a stud WR in the making, although he may have already arrived a bit. If they do have to go to their backup quarterback, David Ash is a pretty solid player--he's got a lot more speed than McCoy, but I'm pretty sure McCoy has the better awareness and arm of the two.

As far as Texas's defense goes, they've got the players. Getting talent is never a question with Texas. The question is whether or not the schemes and chemistry are there to form a cohesive unit. That being said, I think they've got a much better defensive coaching staff this year, after all of the turmoil and turnover that resulted from last year's debacle.

It all boils down to a completely different team than the one our boys played last season, but hopefully the result is the same...

Oregon State might be the worse BCS football team.

McCoy and Shipley part deux are talented but young. Hopefully we can force McCoy into making mistakes due to his lack of experience.

We have Wally. That is all.

PS... Oregon State is pathetic and you are absolutely right... worst team in BCS football.

Wally's gameplans arn't always the best, but dang does he know how to adjust once something isn't working. Thats experience for you.

Did UCLA blitz a lot? I imagine Wally will try and get in the young QBs head with extra pressure from all over the place. Our D is experienced enough that they should be able to mix things up but still stay on the same page.

I was just thinking that. This defense since CPR took over seems to play better as the game goes on.

Don't necessarily have to blitz to rattle a young QB. Changing coverages, stunts, etc. can go a long way towards confusing a guy w/o much experience. I'm sure he's practiced against stuff like this plenty, but he likely hasn't seen a lot of it on gameday yet.

Here's hoping Wally has a great gameplan in store for jr. McCoy.

Re: Please breakdown this Texas team for me

McCoy is getting all the attention before this game, but I think that's wrong. the RB Brown is what makes them a better offense than last year.

The first step is to stop their running game and force them into passing situations. Then next step is in those passing situations, to get pressure on the QB. I think our D-line has done a really good job getting pressure so far this year. It hasn't resulted in numbers (sacks, QB hits, ints, etc) but it has made them hurry up just enough to misfire.

Finally, we have to get off the field on third down. This is the part where we struggle the most when things aren't working. We give up too many long drives, especially early in games.

The offensive key to the game, as always, is to run the ball with some success. If we can do that, then Jantz is free to do his thing.

Finally, if the game is close at the end, and it seems like they all are, the most important thing of all is to put the ball in the end zone. Please please please, no FG attempts to tie or take the lead in the last 5 minutes.

Their running backs are huge load to take down. Brown will be the best back we have seen all season no doubt.

Wally has been in the game a long time and if anyone has experience in how to play mind games on the opposing QB it is him. I would think he is going to have guys shifting all over the place and moving around so the QB will have no idea what is coming at him. Make no mistake about it... I would also expect Texas to try and lean on the running game pretty hard. ISU must stop the run and make the facially deformed McCoy brother beat us. I don't think that kid has the stones to get it done.

Wally's gameplans are actually pretty good, and if something isn't working he is a great adjuster though. Look at how the defense has played in the three years here for the most part, with a lack of talent that we have, it's pretty damn impressive.

No doubt it's better than the Chizik Era. But, so far in all of the three games the other offense has started out on great drives. Wally is an amazing DC and thats why he adjusted the D and we have won.

Here is some good analysis of UT's defense. Warning: there is some hard core technical football discussion.
