Longhorn Safety leaves team for health reasons

I don't like to see advantages happening because of health issues especially long lasting ones, but the Longhorns will be playing Saturday without Safety Nolan Brewster (son of assistant coach Tim Brewster).

Texas Longhorns' Nolan Brewster quits football with concussions - ESPN

Hopefully the effects aren't too harmful going forward and Nolan doesn't feel the effects of playing as he ages. Concussions are a tricky thing to guess the effect of.

I didn't know Brewster was an assistant coach at Texas. Wasn't he also the sideline reporter for FX during the Oklahoma/Missouri game Saturday? How does that work?

Unless you are talking about a different Tim Brewster, he is not an assistant with Texas. He is doing sideline reports for FX and will be doing our game this weekend, as well as the Chiefs/Vikings Sunday. Brewster was an assistant at Texas prior to going to the NFL.

I saw a football game on ESPN Classic once where Joe Paterno was doing commentary.

It's convenient for Brewster that FX is in Ames this week.

Here's a quote from the article:

"Brewster is the son of former Minnesota head coach and Longhorns assistant Tim Brewster."

I'm guessing they mean he was a former assistant at Texas.

You are correct I misunderstood the article former applies to both Minnesota head coach and Longhorn assistant.

Brewster is the son of former Minnesota head coach and Longhorns assistant Tim Brewster.
I was assuming Mack Brown had picked him up as an assistant after the coaching shuffles this offseason but I stand corrected.

Just ask Sidney Crosby in hockey. Effects from concussions can be long lasting.

Hell, at 25, I still feel effects of a concussion I suffered when I was 12.

The "health reasons" are that he may have infected the Texas team with a sickness known only as PLAY4BREW, which infected the Minnesota Golden Gophers for the past four years.
