    What's Wrong With the SEC?

From what I've read, the SEC offered Oklahoma to become a member, but the Sooners declined despite being spurned by the PAC 12 and being resentful about the unequal revenue sharing in the Big 12. Also, Missou and the SEC have been flirting, but I hear nothing about the Tigers wanting to jump. What is the general perception of the SEC that prevents them from attracting quality institutions? Academics? Outlaw sports reputation? Or am I off base?

OU- SEC probably offered OU, but not a package of OU\OSU. OU wants to stay with OSU.
Mizzou- holding out for a big 10 invite, competition level in the SEC would be a huge jump for them, and theyd be on the fringe of the SEC.

Re: What's Wrong With the SEC?

SEC would take OSU in a heart beat if it means getting OU.

OU wants no part of playing Bama, LSU, Arkansas, A&M, Okie State, Miss St, Ole Miss, plus possibly Texas in their non-conference as well as 1-2 other teams from the SEC East.

That won't get you many national championships.

The SEC is too good. OU wants the easiest path to the championship they can get. Very simple.

OU is not stupid like Texas A&M. TAMU has no idea what it is getting itself into for football.

ďI told you, I donít care if youíre black or white. I donít care if youíre rich or poor. I donít care where you come from, whether itís Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I donít care about any of thatÖ But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

Are you kidding? A&M has been busted for cheating by the NCAA several times and major violations at that. Aggy is well versed at cheating they just aren't as good at not getting caught.

I hear the SEC is kind of a *****, plus I'm pretty sure she gave my cousin's lab partner herpies.

Re: What's Wrong With the SEC?

SEC already has too many schools riding the big boys for big television money. Ole Miss, Miss State, Vandy, and even South Carolina and Arkansas are all low population areas with relatively small fan bases. They really don't want to add schools that aren't going to increase their television revenue enough to spread it all out. Adding Ok State with Oklahoma would wash out any benefit of adding OK. This is also why WVU was quickly dismissed. Adding Mizzu would probably be a wash, with no significant financial gain, if any. Texas A&M was a HUGE get for them. Mizzu probably wants to hold out for the coveted Big 10 offer.

Re: What's Wrong With the SEC?

There is a long-standing gentleman's agreement between SEC AD's that when you offer a recruit from another state money to come play for you that you cannot exceed the amount offered from the recruit's in-state school. Which is just the southern hospitable way of doing things, after all. But new schools entering the conference enter knowing that the gentleman's agreement is off the table for them when existing teams go into their state, which will make it difficult to recruit their own. Its kind of a hazing-period, so to speak.

A&M isn't very good and doesn't get the best recruits anyway, so they aren't worried about this. Other schools are nervous about being non-competitive.

Yep. Who knows what a re-aligned conference looks like, but throw in Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Vandy, Kentucky, Auburn, and Georgia in there; suddenly getting to a National Championship Game doesn't seem as easy.

Not that the Big 12 isn't good, but I think it only has 2-3 teams that can field a NC contender in any given year, SEC maybe 4-6?
