    Is anyone still mad

that we did not redshirt PHillip Bates? I remember everyone (except a few of us) we ****** off that we blew phillip Bates red shirt year on a few plays. Just curious if anyone is still mad at that decision?

    Re: Is anyone still mad

I was mad that they blew the redshirt because I was still under the impression they'd use him at QB. As long as they have other plans for him, I'm okay with it, as long as he's needed there. (Such as WR.)

I wasn't one of the people who was upset with playing Bates. He was touted as an awesome athlete, so it made sense to make use of him on our "undertalented" team. I'm glad we did.

    Re: Is anyone still mad

In my opinion, redshirting top talent from your recruiting class is not a good idea. More than likely, Chizik and the staff assured Phillip that he'd see playing time if he honored his choice of the Cyclones, and they're holding true to their word - probably a big reason Bates stuck with us.

Not being afraid to play youngsters and having a deep rotation on both sides of the ball will show potential recruits for the upcoming years that if you commit to ISU and work hard for the coaches, you'll see the field.

    Re: Is anyone still mad

I don't think I was ever "mad" but I did question the decision and still do to a point. It was a nice catch but I think we have good receivers in general who could have stepped up if Bates would have continued his red shirt year.

    Re: Is anyone still mad

I would like to see him used at WR more this year. If he's that talented and athletic not sure we necessarily want to use him at QB if Arnaud is as good as advertised.

Bates...a Reggie Bush type of player? Fast, smart, can jump (36 inch verticle) and multi talented.

He was in a fair amount on Saturday - more than the previous 2 games.

If Gene can pull a higher level of talent than we have in the past, it will be difficult not to play them. Even the Mighty USC is starting a Freshman at Center for the first time in school history. I think we have had to redshirt a lot in the past as we have had to recruit "projects". Hopefully Gene and company can bring in more "ready to play" recruits.

    Re: Is anyone still mad

Red-shirting Bates to play Quarterback doesn't make sense UNLESS AA blows. Bates would start what his senior year???

Not to mention, don't we have 3 QB commits for the 2008 recruiting class already? One being a 3 star.

    Re: Is anyone still mad

As long as they play him, I don't care if he red-shirts or not. I just hate to lose eligibility on kids for standing on the sidelines or only a handful of plays (ala Todd Bandauer and Troy Davis - even though Troy left early)
