    BYU Conference Ties?

Cyclonereport tweets "BYU isn't independent; member of West Coast Conference. Other WCC members counting on BYU same as Big 12 members counted on TAMU." He has been negative about the Big 12conference. BYU might have concerns, but, the conference tie issue is odd. The WCC site identifies BYU as a member, but, Dseret News does not. Do we face tortious inteference claims from WCC or not?
But if a Big 12 invitiation comes, will the Cougars, who are in their first season as an independent, want to join a dysfunctional league? As attractive as joining an automatic-qualifying BCS conference would be, BYU needs the Big 12 to be stable. In the coming days, it appears the Big 12's focus will be on creating stability before looking at expansion.
Blue roundup: Is BYU closer to joining Big 12? | Deseret News

"BYU joined the West Coast Conference on July 1, 2011, to begin competing in the league for the 2011-12 season."

Cyclonereport has said nothing but negative things about the whole Big 12 deal...and has "reported" nothing...

I'm not reading much into anyting he tweets...

    Re: BYU Conference Ties?

Really a non-issue as long as BYU go though the hoops. A&M's problem is they are jumping ship starting next season instead of going though the hoops (i.e. paying the exit fees and giving two years notice). If A&M would have said we are leaving, but we are going to comply to bylaws of the Big 12, really, no one could sue. There is also the whole issue of A&M pledging to stay around for longer than a year. I really doubt that BYU made such a pledge.

    Four points.

Sewanee use to belong to SEC.
Penn State was turned down by the BE.
Boise State has a wrestling team in the Pac 12.
    Anything can happen.

The Sewanee Tigers were pioneers in American intercollegiate athletics and possessed the South's preeminent football program in the 1890s. Their 1899 football team had perhaps the best season in college football history, winning all 12 of their games, 11 by shutout, and outscoring their opponents 322-10. Five of those wins, all shutouts, came in a six day period while on a 2,500-mile (4,000 km) trip by train. Ten of their twelve opponents, including all five of their road trip victims, remain major college football powers to this day.
Sewanee was a charter member of the Southeastern Conference upon its formation in 1932, but by this time its athletic program had declined precipitously and Sewanee never won a football game in the eight years it was an SEC member. Sewanee withdrew from the SEC in 1940 and subsequently deemphasized varsity athletics.

Oh, please! It's the WCC for crying out loud. Are San Francisco and Portland going to gang up and sue them?

    Re: BYU Conference Ties?

We all need to keep in mind this whole realignment thing, while strictly about football, has other implications, as well. BYU is affiliated with the WCC for BBall, and I am assuming, all other sports. Similar to how ND is in the Big East for basketball, and a football independent.

There are several schools in the Big East that do not have major football programs, such as St. John's, Providence, Villanova, Marquette, etc, etc. so raiding the Big East for football leftovers like Louisville, Cincy, and WVU may not be viable.

    Re: BYU Conference Ties?

I thought BYU was going independent in football only and that it started next year.

May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)

Good catch on the mixed status of BYU. I just saw this in another ESPN story "BYU (independent in football/West Coast Conference in other sports)". We would want them in all sports.

Give BYU one chance to join with a time limit. They are in or not in and then move on.
