    Re: Band Guys..

sodakjoe is the best one to answer this, but in case he doesn't see it: Yes, kind of.

SousaBowl XIII didn't actually happen- the Iowa "souzies" (that's seriously what they call themselves) didn't even come to Ames. The official story was that details didn't get ironed out in time for them to sign up for transportation, but with over a decade of these things, that excuse is bunk. The word on the street was that Iowa felt that there were going to be too many ISU alums playing in the game- alums that would really put the hurt on the Hawks. (Alums have always been welcome to play in the game.) ISU has stomped Iowa for the last two years, and has a pretty respectable win record in the series; sounds like Iowa was looking for an excuse to not get beat again.

So no, Iowa didn't show up, but I still count that as an ISU win, considering the circumstances. Instead, the sousas held SousaFest I- basically the SousaBowl except that instead of playing Iowa, they took on the rest of the ISUCF"V"MB. I don't know the score, but I believe the sousas won that, too.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Yeah, some those ISU Alumni Tubas are responsible for surgery on my left knee and 6 months of physical therapy from a pick up game when I was at ISU.

Look like, tuba...smell like tuba....must be tuba.....

I don't know about the Sousa Bowl, but our band blew there's out of the water on the field Saturday. It was over after they played Fanfare, and the lead grew from there.

I've always enjoyed the band, but began to appreciate it more when my daughter played for Ankeny. It gave me a better appreciation for the work that goes into a program.

    The ISUCFVB rocks!

Actually, ornry, the sousas did not win. The other team, comprised of other band members, won. And actually, a certain red-headed trumpet friend of ours threw a touchdown that was one of the only scores in the game I believe.

I love our band, but what is with Iowa and UNI playing more "during" the game. Is that a contract or something? maybe it was just me.

    Re: Band Guys..

I agree the ISU band sounded better when I could hear it. With 100 more members than Iowa, Iowa was louder. The strong south wind made it hard for use on the south side to hear.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

    Re: Band Guys..

I refereed the "SOUSAFEST!" Not a high scoring affair, final score 9-0, band members. A good game all around, and a GREAT time! I didn't get to call a personal foul on anybody tho :( No roughings the passer, late hits...darn. :)
