    Who is SEC #14?

So... who takes the #14 slot in the SEC? Is it still Mizzou? One of the BE leftovers? 13 teams does not a conference make.

AND, if Missouri leaves who else do we attempt to add to the Big XII besides the usual suspects? I don't think an 8-team BCS conference is viable in the long term.

I don't think Mizzou leaves unless the B12 doesn't reform. Money, travel, and rivalries are all respectable in the B12, why change that?

I bet they look at West Virginia again. Or maybe Louisville

WVU is probably back on the list again if no big 12 schools will leave. Some reports were that WVU hadnt been shot down by the SEC but more given a 'hold on'

    Re: Who is SEC #14?

My money is on WV or Louisville. If the Big XII irons out things, the 9 all stay home. WV denied before the PAC 12 announcement. I think they'll make a push for Missouri and maybe OU, but at the end of the day someone from the east will join the SEC to balance out the divisions.

Makes sense, but now that Pac-12 expansion is temporarily off the table, does Missouri say, "We're not going through this again" and try to make the move?
That said, Missouri seems completely unnatural for SEC.

No guarantee Big 12 actually stays together, regardless ... but it seems UT/Tech and OU/OSU are couplets, so even if SEC goes to 16, it would require an additional team other than A&M

My guesses (in no order) are:
    1. West Virginia
    2. Florida State
    3. Miami
    4. Georgia Tech
    5. Virginia Tech

I realize ACC is setting up hellish exit fees -- some have said SEC won't take schools that don't expand its footprint.

    But realize a couple things:
    1. SEC has a lot of "twins" -- except maybe LSU/UK being without a regional dance partner. FSU/Miami and GT would make sense in that regard.
    2. Not sure of TV market aspect (maybe it's a monopoly anyway) but Atlanta and Miami would be nailed further w/ GT or Miami

More complicated that this I'm sure (or maybe less complicated ) ... just some ideas

If I were them I'd get FSU and call it good.

It would be interesting if they were able to pull that off. If so, UConn gets their wish and gets into the ACC. If the Big 12 expands back to 12 teams and takes BYU, West Virginia, and Louisville, the Big East would be left with Rutgers, Cincinnati, USF, and TCU. That's not salvageable IMO. Cincy and USF might head back to CUSA, TCU back to the Mountain West, and Rutgers would possibly try to go the independent route with the hope of a future Big Ten invitation.

    Just more wild realignment speculation.

    Re: Who is SEC #14?

Interesting speculation here. It looks like Mizzou is in a very favorable position to call their shots. Their president/chancellor pretty much led the late charge to keep the Big XII together, so perhaps they are leaning towards staying, assuming fairness in revenue is realized.

On the other hand, Missouri does border 3 SEC states: Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas. The big TV markets lie north of that area, but it's still a geographical advantage. If the SEC reshuffles it's deck a bit, moves another team into the East, it puts aTm and Mizzou in the West, with their natural rivals.

That being said, I still think West Virginia would be the logical choice for the SEC: same time zone as the other SEC east teams, solid football program, probably a good match academically and culturally.

I'm hoping Mizzou stays with the Big XII. I'm hoping tradition wins one for a change.

That'd be a refreshing trend in all of this.

My final thought for the night is that I'll be STUNNED, after talking to 3 people today, if Mizzou ends up in SEC.

I think it has to be WVU. Not only would they expand their footprint and the state loves that team. You also have to admit that those fans belong in the south.... redneck.

    Re: Who is SEC #14?

So if the SEC does take Missouri, do they make them change their name? Does the SEC really need 3 teams nicknamed Tigers?

I believe they prefer the term "Appalachian-American."
