Receivers not getting open OR poor throws from the QB?

Compared to the opposing team, it appears to me the ISU receivers just do a poor job of getting open..........

It also appears to me that Jantz throws to the receiver whether he is open,,,,or not. The lofty jump ball catchup throw to Reynolds was a clear example.

So whom does the Offensive Coach lay the blame?

Can't expect the defense to bail us out against Texas.

You're one to several years late with your astute observation. Passing game looks better than it has in years. Still room to improve, of course.

Thought Lenz was pretty open against Iowa and Money was fairly open on the pass from Lenz.

Re: Receivers not getting open OR poor throws from the QB?

Cyclones are on pace to double their 20+ and 30+ yard pass plays from last year. DOUBLE...yet they aren't getting open?

ISU already has 4 more pass plays of 40+ yards than they did all of last season.

The offense is on another planet compared to last year production. I don't want ANY of what the OP is smoking. What happens when Jantz learns the offense a bit more and hopefully cuts down on his mistakes. This team might put a fat ol' curb-stomp to a couple conference opponents this year, and maybe knock off one of the big boys (ATM/OSU)

Actually, there have been a lot of times someone has been open and Jantz hasn't gotten it to them. Your jump ball example is an example of a QB knowing they need something and having faith that Reynold would at least not let it get intercepted. That is what good teams do. Every throw isn't wide open. Sometimes there is a good faith relationship involved.

Wow. Our receiving corps has probably won us two if not all three games this year and you're going to sit there and call them out? Okay...I'm not saying it's great, but it's improved tremendously from last year. I feel like we have big play threats now, where in the past we would be lucky to have possession receivers.

Don't forget the throw to Young that got called back for holding. Never seen a receiver so open.

Why do we run every play for Brackins? Can't somebody who isn't double-teamed score?

The first 3 interceptions at UConn were not bad throws, particulary,,,,except neither receivers were open. UConn had great coverage.

Ok, so we had some incredible defense and we escaped a loss.

I personally think it was just nerves. This is evidenced by the fact he basically threw three picks right off the bat, then settled down and made good decisions the rest of the night (at least based on what I remember).

Re: Receivers not getting open OR poor throws from the QB?

I watched the replay and Jantz's first interception wasn't as bad as I remember. If he had put more oomph on the ball it would have been for 6 since the receiver had a couple of steps on the defender. He did put too much air on the ball and it out hung out there a bit which was why it got picked. I did notice that Jantz has a tendency to put too much air underneath balls.

He also got antsy in the pocket in that game. There were a few times the pocket was there but he got happy feet and scrambled into pressure. The terrible color guy even noticed that he was trying to force the ball deep when he should have hit open guys short early in the game.

Even though he started 0 for 4 Jantz did end up 18 for 29 which is a 62% completion rate.
