Is there even a motive any more?

Is there more money for OU, OSU, UT, and TTU to leave and go to the Pac 12(16) or does all this shuffling have to do with something else?

Last summer the motives were obvious. Colorado's heart wasn't in it. Nebraska was butthurt and wanted more money.

OU, OSU, UT and TTU were going to leave to get more money but opted to stay after the conference restructured some, etc.

NOW I'm very confused. Is there more money in the Pac 12 or is there projected to be more money in the Pac 12? If it's only projected revenue isn't it a huge risk to walk away from the B12 unless they knew the money will be there, especially with all the back stabbing going on? (Never mind the fact that this implies ESPN's involvement if those 4 schools have a guarantee...)

What the **** is the motive for OU, OSU, UT and TTU when their solidarity could stabilize the B12 and allow it to poach the remaining Big East teams and BYU? What is the motive?

EDIT: The reason I'm asking is none of the rumors suggest that there's more money, unlike last summer where a lot of numbers got thrown around. My impression is that some other politicking might be going on here and that we simply don't understand the motives.

Just imagine the next TV deal they will get. All the money put aside for the Big 12 will end up in the PAC 16

You think that ESPN is so bad at negotiating that they will let a deal for 4 schools end up costing them as much as one for 9 schools did? I don't. I think ESPN makes bank by breaking things up.

Re: Is there even a motive any more?

You shift the money to a different conference... I don't see any reason why it would increase the total amount of money being doled out in tv contracts though.

To me it seems like egos have been the driving factor in this round of ugliness, but who knows...

Re: Is there even a motive any more?

I can't see how it would be a significant amount of extra money. It even sounds like Texas is losing money in all of this. I would imagine it would be equal at the least and maybe a extra 1 or 2 million. This is assuming the total a Texas or Oklahoma would of taken home is between 20-25 million after the first tier rights. Then you would have to add on third tier on top of that.

Re: Is there even a motive any more?

Everyone keeps assuming they're going to split the existing TV contracts into perpetuity. That's not going to happen. If in the next TV deal they get more than twice existing deal (which is likely), then at the very least there is no net loss. More than likely this TV contract will be MUCH MORE than twice what they are going to split for the next few years.

In other words, schools are willing to take a short term hit now in order to land big time $$$ a few years from now.

Well I guess I thought the Big 12 TV contract was really pretty good... and it certainly didnt have anything to do with anyone else but Texas and OU for the most part.

I think ESPN has told these 4 schools to go and that the money will be there. Kind of like a trust fall. You don't do jump off the ledge unless you know you're going to get caught.

The money ISNT int he Pac 12 now, but someone has told them it will be, otherwise it's an outrageous risk for those schools to jump.

    They have a net.

Larry Scott is a driving force behind much of this. Was Women's Tennis that successful under his watch??? He's not a good ol boy from down south, wired into CFB. How can he cause so much upheaval? He's delivered with the networks for the Pac???

Did he get there because of his network reach???

Re: Is there even a motive any more?

Anyone else notice this stuff always happens on weekends when we have to wait until the next day to hear anything official? What better way to drive up ESPN web traffic on Monday that by letting rumors leak over the weekend...

    TINFOIL HATS FOR EVERYONE.

But seriously, I'd love to be a fly on the wall in some of these meetings. I just hope the Pac-12 presidents *****-slap TTU and OSU for being average schools from the reddest of the red states.

ESPN makes bank because the average American is too lazy to do much critical thinking for themselves and doesn't force ESPN to bring their A-game.

So OU complains about LHN, then bolts on conference to join UT who is going to keep LHN??? Makes zero sense.
