Here is an interesting ESPN article aboout the Big XII South's dominanace of the North:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/previe...van&id=2556793

There is really no new info the article, but the interesting thing is Iowa State is the only North school not mentioned once.

    I like this quote:

There are 18 regular-season interdivisional games every year. In the last three years, the South has won 38 of those 54 games for .704 winning percentage. Of the North's 16 wins, seven have come at the expense of Baylor.
    yikes!

Somewhere, someday, ISU will beat Texas in football. Just like with Oklahoma and Nebraska before, ISU will shake off the historical record and win. So says the law of averages.

So why not this year? I believe...

I don't see why they make such a big deal of the South dominance of the north. It's not like Baylor, Texas A&M, and Okie St. have been that dominant. It's more like Texas and Oklahoma with a little Texas Tech sprinkled in, as of recent years, over everyone else.

And the North has won the Big XII Championship game a 5/10 times and 3 of the last 6.

I think the media may just jump on this angle a lot because Big XII North=Nebraska and if Nebraska isn't a powerhouse then the rest of the North can't be good either.

Is anyone else tired of hearing about this? Look back at the first several years of the Big Twelve's existence and you'll see the North's NU/CO/KSU in the final AP top ten most years to the South's A&M only. Now the roles have reversed. I imagine it will shift back eventually. Just the cyclical nature of sports and history.

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.

Like the American League versus the National league. A drought can last a long time. Especially when your pixel scoreboard at Darrell Royal Stadium is twice as big (longer and higher and more expensive) as the Big Red Monument to scoreboards. Even the A&M scoreboard is larger than the third ranked Red scoreboard. However, the Red scoreboard can have more pixels than the A&M scoreboard if they change it.

Everyone was so down on the North last year. I'm not saying I completely disagree, but what about the fact that (if I remember correctly--don't want to take the time to fact check) the North had 5 teams go to a bowl and the South only 2? OK--I know who went to better bowls and who had better records etc.--but doesn't it at least lend weight to the argument of better parity in the North--and anytime you have parity people think that has to mean everyone is mediocre/bad.

Hmmm . . . Maybe the guy doesn't even know that ISU is in the Big XII? I mean, how can you write a paragraph like this:

"Competitive just means that the teams are bunched together. What the North needs is for a team to unbunch itself, and soon. Nebraska is expected to make a move this season. If it doesn't, the prospects aren't good for the rest of the division. Colorado and Kansas State have new coaches. Kansas is rebuilding its defense and Missouri must replace its best player, quarterback Brad Smith. " (bold added)

and not mention ALL of the North teams?

It's insulting, but that is to be expected from ESPN. They're heavily biased towards the larger media markets. It's just business to them.
