    Is it just me...

Or is KF an excuse machine like DMac was? After the loss today, he didn't say they were outplayed, or outcoached, or anything else on the field, he said they were young on offense. He didn't say what DM would, that we lost to a "great, great football team," but he didn't lay ANY blame on himself or his assistants. We all know that Iowa has more talent at some positions than us, and most likely equal (or near) at the rest, and they had themselves handed their own butts on a platter. Is this something that all of Fry's assistants suffer from, or just those that pivot their careers on the Cy-Hawk trophy?

What I mean by KF pivoting on CH, is that he always says it's a good rivalry, but never gets his team excited to play in it. Is that because he feel superior to ISU, and that gets passed down to the players, or is it just lip-service to save face in the media so the loss looks less devastating?

    I think it's just you.

KF took plenty of the blame, and in his presser, stated "I hope we take a better team to Madison than we brought to Ames"

    and...

"We got out-played, and they improved from last week to this. We didn't."

the problem is that Jake is not a good QB yet, he may turn into one. But until he can throw the ball down field and make good decisions Iowa is not going to win a lot of games. They are going to face a lot of 8 and 9 man fronts in the weeks to come.

Yes sir. And with a young QB, hostile environments will be tough for a while. Unfortunately, the WR corps. aren't experienced enough to save him from a bit of that.

Just like Notre Dame, they forgot to develop a qb in their haste to build up Tater. Now that is bad coaching. Hear that Charlie and Kirk, you old pro coaches? College qbs must be developed as backups. Like we are doing with Austen and Phillip.

Uhhhh.... Iowa hasn't been in the position the past 2 years to "develop" their QBs. When you are in a tight game (like most of the games Iowa has either won or lost the past 2 years), then you don't have the opportunity to put in a backup.

It's not bad coaching, it's called lack of opportunity.

It appears that Jake the Fake hasn't even gotten the reps in practice until this season.

I can also remember a few times during the Indiana, NW'ern, and Minnesota games that Iowa could have stuck him in...

Jake the Fake? Do you do stand-up?

And please, when has Iowa been able to stick him in against IU, NU, and Minnesota? Iowa lost to those teams last year, and he was a red-shirt the year before.

Wait, how was that your point? They were close games.

Perhaps you really should think of doing stand-up. ;)

You've been in all kinds of position to develop Jake.

There's this thing called practice, you do it almost every day of the week. Seems like "Captain Kirk" was too busy looking into the now and not the future when he had Tate.

We've been building up to prepare us for the future.

LOL! Wait, so you are honestly saying that over the past year, JC has gotten no reps in practice?

I would like to know how you can, with a straight face, say that Ferentz and co. have just let him ride the pine, even in practice?

Just because he lost one game, where he played poorly doesn't mean he hasn't been getting practice the past few years. I think it's funny that fans of other teams are throwing him under the bus, when Iowa fans aren't even doing that yet.

Oh, and why wouldn't KF look into the now? At the time, Iowa still had a present. ISU hasn't had a present for 2 years now - of course they were looking into the future.

This isn't meant to be a flame - but Iowa has been playing for something the past 6 years. Iowa State has been in that position a few less times....

    Re: Is it just me...

Jake played a whole game last year, so he got some seasoning before this year. Inexperience and dropped passes is a problem so far this year at WR. Practice is great, but, there is nothing even close to live-game-action. Jake has only played four games, he will be fine. Actually, I think Jake's biggest obstacle to developing at QB is "Tate to Holloway." Tate was a basket case last year. I am not saying Ferentz would have had the balls to pull Drew ( I don't think I would). But, Jake would have done well last year, and Iowa would have still made it to a bowl game. "Tate to Holloway" made Drew Tate untouchable, and now the hawks are left rebuilding.

The downside to making excuses to explain a problem is that the problem will never get corrected.

Tight games or no tight games, JC isn't performing like you would expect a 4 star, #2 ranked position player to be doing in his 3rd year in the program. Many 1st year full time starters would love to have had the chances that he has had - redshirt year, 2 spring practices, 2 fall camps, backup year including action in 5 games with 1 start. Many programs including ISU end up starting either a Juco or a true redshirt freshman with absolutely no prior experience.

At this point it appears either that JC was over-hyped coming in or else that he has not been prepared properly. His performance during the remainder of the season will clarify what the situation is.
